Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible to plan, oversee, and ultimately execute assigned projects on time, under budget and within scope.  This includes scheduling, resource management, safety, quality, customer satisfaction, risk management/mitigation, monitoring, reporting, documentation, change orders, and implementation.  The Project Manager plays a critical role in the success of a project guiding it from estimate to customer acceptance. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Planning and Compliance:

  1. Coordinate with functional areas to prepare, maintain and distribute project schedules and plans using available tools (i.e. Microsoft Project, Excel, etc.).
  2. Works with purchasing to obtain best value on all materials, components, and subcontracts.  Approves subcontractor invoices.
  3. Ensures compliance with regulatory and industrial safety standards on all engineering designs and specifications.
  4. Follows the requirements of the KOCH Quality Management System. Ensures consistent application of company and department policy and procedure.

 

Customer Satisfaction:

  1. Maintains clear and concise communications with the customer. Represents the customer to the organization. Builds customer confidence through consistent follow-up.
  2. Satisfies all contractual customer commitments. Ensures that the contract is executed exactly as sold and/or modified within budget.
  3. Submits and approves all change orders to the contract with the customer and/or subcontractors.
  4. Prepares and holds regular progress meetings with the appropriate team members and if necessary, outside vendors or sub-contractors.

Risk Analysis/Mitigation:

  1. Ensures that the equipment supplied meets the performance objectives.  Looks for areas that require original engineering analysis in lieu of application of standards.  Maintains the organization’s focus on expected and actual system performance issues.
  2. Coordinates with Engineering on final decisions regarding system designs.
  3. Directs and coordinates the internal efforts to maximize responsiveness to special issues as they arise.
  4. Organizes and conducts reviews and problem solving sessions within KOCH organization when needed.
  5. Resolves contract disagreements in a timely and professional manner and documents final resolutions in writing.
  6. Inspects job progress in field to insure adherence to schedule, contract documents, and GKS standards. Inspects field installation work for quality and progress. Takes action as required.
  7. Recognizes and takes corrective action when conflicts arise between any participants that can put the final outcome of the project in jeopardy.
  8. Works with Engineering, Manufacturing and Field Services to analyze the technical content of the project and identifies areas of risk that require special attention to ensure overall performance of the final system through the use of launch meetings, design review meetings, constructability reviews, focused problem solving sessions, description of operations etc.
  9. Identifies all critical activities and if possible develop back up plans.
  10. Demonstrates the ability to effect change.

Communication, Documentation, and Reporting:

  1. Ensures that KOCH, the customer, subcontractor, and partners are in agreement on the schedule at all times throughout the course of the project.
  2. Ensures that KOCH and the customer are in agreement on scope of work and deliverables at all times throughout the course of the project.
  3. Maintains all financial records for the project regarding subcontracts, costs to complete, job costing, material content, labor, purchase orders, etc.
  4. Presents and collects fairly priced change orders for additional work prior to execution.
  5. Documents all critical information in writing.
  6. Assists in account collections.
  7. Ensures that all contract support documents are maintained in good order (cert. of insurance, invoices, waiver of liens, permits, notices, etc.)
  8. Keeps KOCH management informed of project status in shop and field.
  9. Approves schedules and changes to schedules or to the estimate breakdown
  10. Assists Sales, Estimating, and Manufacturing as required.

Continuous Improvement:

  1. Provides innovative concept possibilities to improve performance and reduce costs.
  2. Develops technical and project management ability of staff.  Analyzes training needs and provide as required.
  3. Continually reviews, assesses, and when needed, suggests improvements to the KOCH Quality Management System

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  1. Ability to climb, bend, and fit into confined spaces while measuring/inspecting.
  2. Ability to perform basic lifting behaviors (i.e. 40 pounds at most).

 

Travel

Approximately 50% - ability to travel to various locations within the organization; domestic and international.

Required Education, Experience, and Training

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, Master’s Degree in Engineering Management (preferred), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience in project-oriented industry with estimating, manufacturing, engineering, and field work (preferred).
  3. Experience in team leadership or supervision.
  4. Successful completion of project management assignments (preferred).
  5. PMP certification (preferred).
  6. Experience presenting to a technical society or conference (preferred).

 

 Requisite Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to manage all KOCH projects and continuously initiate improvements in the equipment or processes.
  2. Ability to apply engineering training to solve the variety of problems related to finishing and specialized processing equipment.
  3. Ability to initiate change and create a sense of urgency.
  4. Ability to use proactive leadership to avoid/resolve customer/contract disputes.
  5. Skills in current software applications, i.e., AutoCAD and MS Office products.
  6. Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  7. Ability to speak a second language (preferred).
