Job Description

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for managing and ensuring the successful execution of construction projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This role provides overall leadership, coordination, and technical direction for field operations. The Project Manager oversees project scope, schedule, budget, safety, and compliance while collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain priorities and resolve issues. They lead site personnel, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements. Additionally, the Project Manager supports planning, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts to drive project success.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages all phases of construction project execution, including scope, schedule, budget, and overall performance
  • Provides leadership and coordination for field operations, ensuring safety, security, and compliance are integrated into all activities
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, project controls, etc.) to maintain priorities and resolve project issues
  • Reviews and monitors project estimates, schedules, costs, and constructability to ensure efficiency and accuracy
  • Leads and supports site personnel, including staffing, performance management, and adherence to procedures and quality standards
  • Tracks project progress, identifies risks or variances, and implements corrective actions to keep projects on track
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to job functions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents to management.
  • Participate in required training sessions and safety briefings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, science, or project management (or equivalent) 
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience across project management, engineering, construction, project controls, or procurement 
  • DOE Q Clearance required
  • U.S. citizenship required 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and/or move:
  • Up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to visually inspect and interpret data or details
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • May require:
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work in elevated areas or confined spaces
  • Extended periods of driving or travel
  • Shift work, weekend availability
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., sitting or standing) for extended periods of time
  • Ability to move throughout the work environment, including bending, reaching, walking, and climbing stairs
  • Frequent use of hands to operate computer systems, tools, or equipment
