Job Description

The impact you will have: San José Unified manages more than 41 properties and 3.3 million square feet to support the education of our 30,000 students. As a Property Monitor, you will oversee the use, maintenance, and security of San José Unified’s facilities in an efficient and safe manner to meet customer needs and support an enriching educational environment for our students, staff, and community. Your vigilance, responsiveness, and professionalism ensure our schools remain safe, well-maintained, and welcoming spaces for learning and community engagement. Who you are: You are a responsible, observant, and customer-focused professional who takes pride in protecting and maintaining school facilities. You bring strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of situations. You are dependable, attentive to detail, and able to work independently while making decisions that prioritize safety, service, and district standards. You understand that your work directly impacts the daily experience of students, staff, and community members.


As a Property Monitor, you will be assisting with the leading and managing of property oversight and be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Monitoring the use of district properties, ensuring spaces are used appropriately, safely, and in accordance with district policies.
  • Ensuring the security of buildings, grounds, and facilities, including locking/unlocking buildings and responding to safety concerns.
  • Inspecting facilities, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance, safety, or security issues and reporting them promptly.
  • Coordinating with custodial, maintenance, and site staff to support daily operations and resolve property-related concerns.
  • Assisting with event support, including verifying permits, monitoring site use, and helping ensure smooth setup and cleanup.
  • Documenting incidents, property issues, and site usage, maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Responding to inquiries from staff, families, and community members in a professional and customer-service–oriented manner.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures, district regulations, and emergency protocols across all assigned properties.
  • Supporting the enforcement of district rules, addressing misuse of facilities, and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Representing the district with professionalism, maintaining a visible and helpful presence at school sites and district properties.


What you need for this position:

  • Completion of 12th grade or equivalent
  • Resume and Letter of Introduction outlining desire and qualifications for this position

  • 1.0 FTE - 40hrs./week: Monday/Tuesday: 8:30pm-6:30am; Saturday/Sunday: 8:00am-6:00pm
  • 12-Month Position


SB 848 Child Safety & Employment Disclosure Requirement


Effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (School Employee Misconduct/Child Abuse Prevention Act), applicants for employment with San José Unified are subject to enhanced child safety, training, and employment disclosure requirements.


Under SB 848, schools are required to strengthen background vetting procedures and obtain employment history information related to allegations of egregious misconduct involving students. Former employers may be contacted to release records regarding substantiated findings of misconduct as permitted by law. Failure to provide complete and accurate information regarding prior educational employment or relevant misconduct findings may result in disqualification from the hiring process or withdrawal of an offer of employment.


SB 848 also expands mandated reporter requirements and requires annual child abuse prevention training for employees and certain volunteers by July 1, 2026. All employees must comply with district-adopted child safety policies, including procedures for supervising and protecting students.
