The City of Muscatine, Iowa is seeking its next Public Works Director. Muscatine, Iowa, is a welcoming community located along the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa, offering a high quality of life with a population of approximately 24,000 residents. The Public Works Director performs highly responsible, professional and administrative work involving administering, directing and coordinating the work of all employees in all public work activities including engineering, roadway maintenance, transfer station, building and grounds, refuse collection, landfill, equipment maintenance, public transportation, and collection drainage.
The successful candidate will have excellent leadership skills and an ability to create effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and the community. A solid knowledge of the principles and practices of all Public Works activities, applicable regulations and laws, and solid communication skills is required. Position requirements include bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's preferred) and a minimum of five years in a supervisory role or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a similar sized department with oversight of task force operations, street crimes units, budgeting, and grant writing is necessary. The minimum starting salary is $113,182. The selected candidate will be required to pass a physical, drug screen, and background check following job offer. Residency within 30 air miles of city limits required within 6 months of hire.
