Job Description

Job Purpose & Description:

The role of a QA Lead hand is to ensure a quality product is delivered to our customers, by performing all required Quality test safely and accurately. The Lead Hand will also provide support, training and mentoring to QA inspectors / technicians, supporting the QA Manager in various leadership tasks where appropriate and applicable. The shift for this position will be Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, train, and mentor QA inspectors/technicians, both existing and new hires. Provide applicable QA training to operators as needed.

  • Must be able to competently operate all machinery and equipment pertaining to testing of PVC, Polyethylene, and ABS products and the quality control of production and raw materials. Testing includes but is not limited to: Impact testing, burst testing, stiffness and flattening testing.

  • Must be able to competently operate and maintain on-line marking systems (Keyence and Videojet inkjet printers, and hot stamp printers)

  • Measure, test, visually inspect all product manufactured by the Company in accordance with both internal and external standards and record all information in writing that is generated from carrying out the tests.

  • Ensure adequate written records are kept of all quality control information generated internally.

  • Immediately report in writing to the QA Manager any deviation from the external or internal standards used by the Company.

  • On occasion, must carry out secondary checks on product in stock and will be required to check products returned by our customers for compliance with the Company’s standards.

  • Must identify product, by using a labelling system once it has met the internal and external standards of the company.

  • Proactively monitor data system to ensure accuracy of information. Changing status as it relates to QA testing and Production Problems (Defects)

  • Perform tool verification and monitor and maintain the records relating to ISOP03 - Calibration

  • Monitor and maintain the records relating to ISOP60 – Monitoring and Measurement of Manufactured Products

  • Participate in the internal/external audits required to maintain multiple certifications

  • It is understood that other functions may be assigned by the Manager as deemed necessary that fall outside the scope of this list

Education & Certificates:

  • High School Diploma and/or manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Experience with plastic extrusion process preferred.

  • Forklift certificate preferred – Internal training available

  • Must be able to read a micrometer, OD Tape, vernier calipers and measuring tape and apply findings to QA Line Inspection Sheet.

  • Assist the QA manager in developing and maintaining internal procedures.

  • Train QA technicians and operators to ensure compliance with internal quality requirements for their assigned classification.

  • ISO 9001: 2015 experience an asset

Competencies:

  • Productivity and Software - Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS), electronic documentation control, data analysis, and ERP systems in a manufacturing or regulated environment.

  • Troubleshooting/Diagnosis – Assess reported workplace issues and deviations following a structured approach. Ensure that decisions are made based on policies, rules and organizational directives and solving the emerging problems.

  • Mechanical Aptitude – Understand basic physical principles quickly and apply them to various scenarios.

Key Relationships:

Interacts daily with managers, operators, teammates, and other front-line leaders in the plant.

Working Conditions:

  • Mostly work indoors in manufacturing environment with long periods of standing/walking.

  • Employee may experience progressive degrees of changing factors in the work process (changing work priorities, deadlines, accuracy, quotas, conflicting demands)

  • Employee may be exposed to a moderate level of hazards in the work environment, such as chemicals, commercial products, exposure to potential toxins, moving machinery, repetitive motion, excessive noise, powered industrial vehicle fork/reach/ bucket lift/other.

  • May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.

  • Employee may be required to perform a moderate level of specific tasks such as lifting up to 35 lbs, muscular action, body movements, working positions, posture changes, visual attentiveness.

  • Employee will be required to wear protective eyewear, reflective safety clothing, appropriate gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety shoes, hard hat, and/or other.

  • Physical work required which includes the use of cranes, forklifts, and other equipment. Work requires walking, observing, repairing and documenting. Work always requires sensory attention.

  • The incumbent understands, respects and adheres to the workplace Health & Safety rules, 5-S, and housekeeping expectations of the Kingman facility.
