We are equipped with one Varian True Beam linear accelerator, an Elekta Flexitron HDR after loader, superficial x-ray unit, and a departmental CT simulation with 4D capabilities. The clinical scope of our practice is wide with treatments and techniques including VMAT, SRS, SBRT, DIBH, HDR brachytherapy, LDR brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceuticals.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

  1. Engages in the design optimization, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of treatment plans.
  2. Responsible for the radiation protection of patients and staff.
  3. Designs and implements all aspects of the quality management program that involve the use of external beam radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes.
  4. Reviews and approves the procedures followed by the radiation staff in the delivery of the prescribed dose. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Directs the radiation oncology physics program, which includes the technical direction of medical dosimetrists, therapy equipment service engineers and other physics support staff.
  2. Calibrates therapy equipment in a manner that ensures accurate radiation dose delivery.
  3. Directs the determination of radiation dose distribution in patients undergoing treatment (i.e. computerized dosimetry planning or direct radiation measurement).
  4. Directs and/or performs the acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Master of Science or Doctoral Degree and ABR board certified or eligible in therapy physics
  • Will be expected to obtain Colorado Registered Medical Physicist qualifications
  • All experience levels considered; preference ABR Board Certified and/or HDR experience.

Experience:

  • 5+ years post-degree clinical experience or completion of a post-degree clinical medical physics residency program under the preceptorship of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics
