Full Salary Range: $24.16 - $35.03 hourly

Anticipated Hiring Range: $24.16 - $32.37 hourly

Job Summary:

The Recreation Coordinator II is an integral part of the City of Greeley's Recreation Division. The Recreation Coordinators oversees 90+ part-time staff. This position is directly responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of the part-time staff. The Recreation Coordinator also schedules facilities, assists with membership sales, collaborates with outside contractors, conducts surveys and ensures facilities are operating efficiently and provides quality programs. Core objectives of this position include partnering with other Aquatic Coordinators to deliver swimming lesson programs, group rentals, and basic Aquatic facility maintenance. This position is responsible for programming at the Family FunPlex Adventure Island Water Park, the Greeley Recreation Pool, Centennial Pool, Discovery Bay Pool, Island Grove Splash Park and Sunrise Splash Park.  

 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, or a related field required. 

  • One to three (1-3) years of recreation or special event programming experience.       

  • Current certification in Community CPR, First Aid and AED or within 3 months of hire.

OR 

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,

AND 

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with 2-year clean driving record.

 

Preferred:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Preferred Certifications: Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard certification, CPO or AFO.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events

  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part-time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors

  • Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part-time staff at your facility

  • Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team

  • Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures

  • Deliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility users

  • Create and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities

  • Attend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, and other city agencies

  • Attend community events and serve as an ambassador to the community

  • Perform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance Technicians

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Travel:

  • Category A-Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.

 

Essential Functions:

Program Management

  • Create, implement, and coordinate a variety of Recreation programs and special events.

  • Work directly with the Communications and Engagement Department to ensure marketing materials, websites, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.

  • Foster and develop principled relationships with community partners and organizations to grow and market current and future programs.

  • Collaborate with Operations staff to ensure they have the proper program information.

  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors, instructors and other external groups.

Personnel Management

  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff.

  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and in-service trainings.

  • Utilize When2Work scheduling software to schedule employees.

Facility and Risk Management 

  • Ensure facilities are safe and conduct regular inspections.

  • Work with maintenance staff to ensure all preventative maintenance occurs on a regular basis.

  • Oversee pro shop and concession sales.

  • Maintain staff certification records to ensure patron safety including Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, AED Training, and various required certifications.

  • Review and maintain online and in-person training through the City of Greeley Training Courses. 

  • Offer Risk Management Education courses for internal and external customers.

Fiscal Management and Assessment

  • Responsible for preparation and administration of the program area budget and related funds, and the development of reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division financial goals.

  • Track and order supplies and equipment.

  • Monitor the hourly employee labor budget.

  • Administer surveys and conduct focus groups to gauge participant satisfactions level, gain constructive feedback and foster ideas for new programs and special events.

Customer Service and Engagement

  • Deliver prompt and professional solutions to both external and internal customers through face-to-face, phone, and email interactions.

  • Provide quality service through the development of relationships with facility users, program participants, community members, City employees, and numerous partner organizations.

Technology

  • Learn to use and effectively operate recreation management software, Amilia, for program operations including account management, pass sales, program registrations, point-of-sale service, and other management functions.

  • Update and monitor Recreation website and social media outlets.

  • Learn to use and effectively operate Connect2Concepts.

  • Efficiently Operate When to Work Software.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisor Duties

  • Organize and delegate assignments to team members. 
  • Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees.

  • Hold employees accountable for assigned tasks and goals. 
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback and training opportunities.

  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

  • Recreation Coordinator will be exposed to indoor/outdoor work areas including but not limited to classroom, general office spaces and recreational activity spaces.

  • Recreation Coordinator maybe exposed to the movement of heavy objects, noisy sounds, hot/cold workspaces, bodily fluids and hostile individuals.

  • Frequently interacts with participants, parents, coaches, officials, volunteers, vendors, community partners, and City staff.

  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions.

  • Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools. 

  • Set up for special events and meetings.

  • May travel between facilities, parks, program sites, and event locations throughout the workday.     

  • May respond to participant incidents, customer concerns, scheduling issues, and other time-sensitive operational needs.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires mobility to move throughout offices, recreation facilities, athletic fields, parks, and event sites.

  • Frequently stands, walks, bends, stoops, kneels, reaches, and moves throughout indoor and outdoor program areas.          

  • May lift, carry, push, or pull supplies, equipment, and materials used for recreation programs and events.   

  • Requires the ability to set up, take down, and transport program or event equipment. 

  • Requires visual acuity, hearing, and manual dexterity sufficient to supervise activities, operate equipment, use computers, and communicate effectively.      

  • May be required to demonstrate program activities, monitor participant safety, and respond quickly in emergency or first-aid situations.  

  • Must be able to work in both sedentary administrative tasks and active, physically demanding program settings.
