POSITION SUMMARY



The Registered Nurse - Medical Services works collaboratively with the Medical Services team and other Kanza programs to provide safe, timely, person-centered nursing services. The position supports clients through nursing assessment, medication administration and monitoring, health education, care coordination, and clinical follow-up. The Registered Nurse helps clients manage behavioral and physical health needs while promoting recovery, wellness, and continuity of care.



 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



The following duties are representative of the primary responsibilities of the position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications. Kanza may assign or modify duties based on organizational, program, regulatory, or client needs.




  • Conduct initial and ongoing nursing assessments to identify medical, behavioral health, medication-related, and safety needs.

  • Develop, implement, and update nursing plans of care in collaboration with clients, prescribers, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

  • Monitor client response to prescribed medications, including effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, adherence concerns, and the need for clinical follow-up.

  • Administer medications, including prescribed intramuscular and subcutaneous psychiatric or substance use disorder treatment medications, in accordance with provider orders, nursing standards, and agency procedures.

  • Review and verify medication orders; accurately document medication administration, client education, clinical observations, and follow-up activities in the electronic health record.

  • Coordinate with pharmacies, prescribers, insurance plans, and other providers to support safe and timely access to medications.

  • Assist clients with medication refill requests, prior authorizations, medication assistance programs, available discounts, and other medication-access needs.

  • Provide education to clients and, when authorized, family members or supports regarding medications, symptom management, wellness, self-care, and when to seek additional medical attention.

  • Complete client screenings, nursing assessments, vital signs, injections, laboratory-related coordination, and other clinic services within the Registered Nurse's scope of practice.

  • Support clinic operations by assisting with client check-in, appointment scheduling, reminder and follow-up calls, telehealth coordination, and other workflow needs.

  • Collaborate with Medical Services staff, treatment teams, hospitals, pharmacies, primary care providers, community partners, and other Kanza programs to promote coordinated and integrated care.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent or emergent medical and behavioral health concerns, including use of crisis response, emergency procedures, and de-escalation techniques.

  • Protect client privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 when applicable, professional nursing standards, and Kanza policies.

  • Follow infection-control, medication-storage, controlled-substance, sharps-disposal, and workplace-safety requirements.

  • Participate in team meetings, case consultation, quality-improvement activities, audits, training, and required competency reviews.

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation and comply with applicable payer, accreditation, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

  • Travel to Kanza offices, client residences, and community locations as needed and operate a company vehicle or approved personal vehicle in accordance with agency policy.

  • Provide coverage or assistance to other Medical Services functions as assigned, including occasional schedule adjustments or overtime to meet urgent client or operational needs.
