Job Title


Medical Surgical & CCU RN


 


Job Summary



As a Registered Nurse on our Medical/Surgical Unit, you will provide direct professional nursing care for medical/surgical patients by utilizing nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills. Performs technical nursing functions, utilizes the nursing process to assess patient status, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care. Ensures a therapeutic and safe environment for patients and families within the guidelines and policies of the department and the philosophy of the organization. This position provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for neonate, adolescent, and adult patients.


 


Critical Care Unit (CCU) Nurse: In addition to above, provides direct professional nursing care for critically ill or unstable medical/surgical patients by utilizing nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills.


 


Charge Nurse: In addition to above, partners with the Medical/Surgical Clinical Coordinator to manage the shift operations of the medical/surgical unit. Directs and supervises and supports clinical staff. Maintains clinical competency in all aspects of patient care, assisting staff in decision-making and problem solving regarding patient care. Assists with critical episodes in other departments.

Compensation


We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is: RN ASN, $42.70—$62.79; RN BSN, $44.41—$65.30; RN MSN, $46.18—$67.91. These ranges reflect the base wage for this position.


 


Key Accountabilities



Patient assessment




  • Assesses patient’s condition based upon observation, examination, and / or interview, laboratory findings, and other pertinent information

  • Completes assessment in specified time frame.

  • Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient’s physiological and psychological condition.



Patient care planning



  • Uses professional judgement and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize and execute the patient’s plan of care consistent with patient assessment data and physician’s treatment plans and professional standards of evidence based practice.

  • Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient’s plan of care, provides supervision and guidance.



Patient interventions



  • Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient’s condition and / or prevent complications.

  • Consistently follows patient care and facility policy and procedures in performance of one’s duties. Primary nurse will assist with direct patient care including providing ADLs and answering call lights. ADLs will be the direct responsibility of the primary CCU nurse on all CCU patients (if the patient requires more than 1 assist with regards to ADLs ancillary staff may be asked to assist).

  • Renders professional nursing care including administering medications having BMV scores of > 95%, starting intravenous fluids and blood products.

  • Performs all technical skills required for unit patient population such as, but not limited to IV venipuncture, restraint application, sterile dressings, etc.



Evaluation of care



  • Evaluates and documents patient’s response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and / or contacts physicians as circumstances require.

  • Documentation reflects evaluation of patient response to nursing actions.



Provides patient education



  • Provides and documents patient / family education based on diagnosis, treatment plan or prescribed medical regimen in accordance with patient / family readiness and ability to learn.




Qualifications



Staff Nurse:



  • Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing

  • Current BLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).

  • Current ACLS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).

  • Current PALS must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).

  • Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.

  • Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.

  • Trauma training modules (within 1 year of hire).

  • EKG rhythm interpretation (competence must be documented in the first 6 months)

  • Professional appearance and demeanor

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written English



CCU Nurse required qualifications include:



  • Competent in Med/Surg acute care

  • Attends and successfully completes CCU core classes unless they have previous CCU experience.

  • Current PALS or ENPC certification (if not current will need to obtain in the first 6 months).

  • Current TNCC certification (if not current will need to obtain within a year).

  • Certified Sedation Course (if not current will need to obtain in the first 6 months) this is a one-time requirement.



Charge Nurse required qualifications include:



  • Competency in CCU cares



Preferred Qualifications



  • Minimum one-year current acute care experience




Schedule




  • 48 hours per two-week pay period



  • 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM or 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM



  • Every third weekend and every third holiday
