Job Description

Position Title: Registered Nurse- Sexual Health 

Location: Country Doctor Community Clinic

Expected Hours: 40hrs/week 

Union: Yes

 

Salary Range: $41.22 – $61.54 per hour, Exempt/Salary, payable bi-weekly. The salary scale for this position is between steps 0 and 19, depending on experience. Our Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center was founded in 1970 in Seattle's Central District. Our Country Doctor Community Clinic was established in 1971 by residents of the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Job Summary

The Sexual Health Nurse provides HIV specific and Sexual Health Services at Seattle Roots Community Health. This mission-drive RN is responsible for supporting patients living with HIV and patients receiving sexual health services throughout the organization. The nurse will work closely with healthcare providers, program directors, supervisors, and community partners to ensure services are accessible, inclusive, and culturally competent. This position requires on-site presence and familiarity with this patient population is required. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Specific for Patients Living with HIV:

  • Develop and track individual treatment plans.
  • Coordinate with PCP when changes in treatment plans are necessary and educate patients to understand these changes. 
  • Provide upstream chart reviews to PCP to ensure HIV-specific primary care needs for patients are being addressed. 
  • Engage in medical consult meetings with the HIV team for medically challenging cases
  • Facilitate consultation with specialists for challenging medical cases 
  • Facilitate patient involvement in clinical trials 
  • Develop and provide clinically relevant HIV education to providers and support staff to ensure delivery of excellent HIV care at all CDCHC sites 
  • Support HIV Program Directors in programmatic planning

For all Sexual Health Patients:

  • Utilize the nursing process to provide ongoing support to patients that encourage adherence to medication and engagement in care
  • Ensure timely and accurate charting in electronic health care records
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary care team members to ensure that patient needs are being met.
  • Liaise with CBOs to ensure service accountability to marginalized demographics
  • Perform patient education and coordination of care
  • Maintain scheduled patient/nurse appointments
  • Triage patient calls, appointments, and walk-ins
  • Evaluate messages, faxes, or calls, patient paperwork/forms, prioritize patient needs and coordinate with patient appointments
  •  Assess patient needs and arrange for education, problem-solving, care management, and/or follow-up care
  •  Perform nurse-to-provider conversion visits or provider consultations as appropriat
  • Appropriately assist in resolving medication problems, such as calls about medication side effects, requests for medications not currently prescribed, and management and clarification of refills

 Program Support:

  • Work closely with other members of the sexual health team to ensure grant requirements are met
  • In conjunction with other team members, ensure that sexual health programs are aligned with evidence-based practices and public health guidelines
  • Support quality improvement activities and attend regular quality meetings 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sexual health, public health or community health 
  • Strong knowledge of sexual health issues, including STI prevention, contraception, sexual education, and LGBTQ+ health.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, with the ability to educate and advocate effectively in diverse settings.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with community stakeholders, public health organizations, and healthcare teams.
  • Cultural humility and sensitivity to working with diverse populations, including different sexual orientations, gender identities, and socioeconomic status.

 

Education & Training

  •     Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field — or equivalent experience providing clinical and program leadership in community or public health settings.
  •      RN License required
  •      Continuing education in sexual health practices, LGBTQ+ health, and reproductive rights is encouraged.
