JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse - part time (3 days per week)
REPORTS TO: School Nurse
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work in cooperation with the full-time, certified school nurse (CSN), to provide health care for students and staff.
2. Maintain health office policies and procedures in the absence of the CSN.
3. Attend school-wide and individual class trips, to provide for the administration of medications and maintenance of the health and well-being of students and staff.
4. Serve as an active member of the Emergency Response Team.
5. Conduct staff in-services as necessary or upon request.
6. Trained and designated by the CSN as the delegate for the emergency administration of epinephrine (epi-pen) for the students and staff, in the absence of CSN.
PROFESSIONALISM
1. Maintain confidentiality on school-related matters concerning individual students, their families, or their records. Records shall never be removed from school.
2. Maintain professional rapport with the administration, the staff, the students, the parents and teacher aides, child study team members, and individuals from other outside agencies. Keep discussion about students private. No discussion about students while in the students presence or in the hallways.
3. Attend Back-to-School Night.
4. Adhere to all contractual hours.
5. Follow all procedures outlined in The Phoenix Center staff handbook.
6. Initiate changes and discuss new ideas through the proper channels.
7. Volunteer to participate in ad-hoc committees to ensure collaboration with staff and administration.
8. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times
9. Submit all required paperwork and follow prescribed timelines.
10. Attending department, full staff and other meetings as required by Administration.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Extended periods of standing/walking.
2. Frequent need to lift/pull up to 50 lbs.
3. Frequent need to bend/squat/stoop when attending to students.
4. Numerous trips (minimally twice a day) up and down the stairs.
5. Cope with students’ unpredictable aggressive or playful behavior (i.e., hair pulling, unexpected hugs or jumping).
6. Follows and applies the principles of The Phoenix Center’s policy on Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. NJ Nursing License
2. BS in Nursing
3. Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate
