Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the administrative supervision of the Team Leader or Program Director, this position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented services for adults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs nursing assessments and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines, and makes referrals as needed.
  • Sets up medications according to established procedure for preparation for medication outreach.
  • Documents in progress notes all billable interventions according to established County guidelines and current computerized documentation programs in use.
  • Processes doctors’ orders according to program-specific procedures, including obtaining refill requests from pharmacies in order to ensure continuation of treatment.
  • Teaches clients, family members, board and care operators, and personal service coordinators about medications, directions, side effects, drug interactions and other health issues.
  • Acts as consumer advocate, upholding member-driven/strength-based philosophy, to achieve member satisfaction.
  • Interacts in a professional manner, as a representative of TPCP, with outside agencies (Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, labs) for the purpose of providing continuity of care.
  • Participates in shift update meetings and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Acts as a resource by providing training to staff members regarding any medical- or nursing-related information as needed, either in an individual or group setting.
  • Provides nursing support to other Turning Point facilities as needed, i.e., providing an injection to a client.
  • Collaborates with the Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Residents to provide comprehensive care to clients and members, keeping them informed of relevant information.
  • Monitors and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment, laboratory or diagnostic tests, to the physician.
  • Provides and administers prescribed medical treatment, under supervision of a physician, and nursing interventions to clients.
  • Administers TB tests to clients and staff, participating in the annual employee TB screening and providing tests throughout the year as needed, and maintains related records.
  • Inventories and orders medications and medical supplies from the pharmacy.
  • Processes, on a quarterly basis, the destruction of expired, discontinued or refused medications according to TPCP procedure.
  • Safely transports medical supplies and waste using own personal vehicle; in some programs, may perform home visits.
  • Maintains clean driving record as well as currency of driver’s license and vehicle insurance/registration.
  • Attends staff meetings unless approval for non-attendance is secured by the Program Director.
  • Attends monthly nurses’ meeting unless approval for non-attendance is secured by the Nursing Director.
  • Possesses knowledge of and adheres to the TPCP procedures related to medications found in the Operations and Procedures Manual.
  • Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.
  • Ensures compliance with State licensing standards with regard to RN license.
  • Keeps abreast of current medical information and pertinent professional developments by attending workshops, conferences, etc. in accordance with licensing renewal requirements.
  • Keeps First Aid/CPR certification current.
  • Meets the standards set for performance in all aspects of job duties.
  • Meets the standard for consistent attendance (not more than a 5% absence rate per month) by reporting to every scheduled shift on time and ready to work and by the judicious use of paid sick leave and avoiding any situations resulting in the need to dock pay for time not worked.

TRAVEL

Off-site meetings/trainings; transport of medication/equipment; field visits.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

BSN and valid RN license with recent experience in psychiatric nursing with medical/surgical experience or home health care.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid CA RN License.
  • Valid California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration.
  • Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
Compensation:
$42.00 - $53.27 an hour.
