Position Summary:
The Rover is a key support role in sawmill operations, responsible for assisting in various areas of the mill to ensure smooth production flow, equipment cleanliness, material handling, and safety compliance. This position requires flexibility, quick learning, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment. The Rover will rotate between different tasks and stations based on production needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with material handling, moving raw logs and finished lumber between stations.
- Fill in for production line workers during absences or breaks.
- Perform general cleanup duties including sawdust removal, sweeping, and debris management.
- Monitor equipment for visible issues or malfunctions and report them promptly.
- Help load and unload materials from conveyors or machines.
- Support maintenance teams with basic tasks such as tool retrieval or part handling.
- Inspect lumber for quality, defects, or misalignment and sort accordingly.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times.
- Work cooperatively with machine operators and supervisors to ensure efficiency.
- Assist with start-up and shut-down procedures on production lines as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn multiple roles.
- Strong work ethic and punctuality.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
Preferred:
- Prior experience in a sawmill, lumber yard, or industrial production facility.
- Forklift or equipment operation experience (training may be provided).
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environment.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions depending on the mill setup.
- Rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime may be required based on production demand.
