Job Title: School-based Homeless/Newcomer Family Specialist
Department: Office of Students, Family & Community Engagement

Position Summary:
The School-based Homeless/Newcomer Family Specialist identifies and supports students and families who are newcomers or experiencing homelessness or housing instability. This role ensures families are connected with essential city and state resources while promoting student success through academic, social, and emotional support in partnership with school staff and community agencies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Coordinate with the District point of contact and community to assist homeless and newcomer families in getting essential resources, family support, and well-being.
• To advocate collaboratively with school administrators and staff to ensure homeless and newcomer students receive the educational, social, and emotional needs to succeed academically.
• Monitor attendance and truancy of homeless and newcomer students and support with home visits if needed.
• Conduct home visits and provide field-based services, including transportation
• Maintain documentation and records by Lawrence Public School policies.
• Collaborate with school administrators and staff to develop and implement family communications and systems around successful acclimation to school (i.e. handbooks, newsletters, flyers, media messages, phone calls).
• Build relationships with families to promote engagement and successful school integration
• Other duties as assigned

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Ability to work with diverse populations and under-resourced communities
• Conflict resolution and active listening skills
• Professionalism and ethical mindset
• Proficient in computer and data entry systems
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, punctual, and reliable
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience working with youth and families from urban communities
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
• Reliable transportation required
• Lawrence residents highly preferred
• Extremely punctual and reliable, highly organized and detail-oriented.
• Active listening, presentation, and conflict resolution skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills, and an ethical mindset
• Computer skills/ proficiency
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends

Pay Range
• $42,411.20 - $65,332.80
