The Harris-Lake Park Community School District invites qualified applications for the combined position of School Business Official and Board Secretary. We are searching for an ethical, accurate, and experienced financial professional to join our administrative leadership team.
District Overview
The Harris-Lake Park CSD serves the communities of Harris and Lake Park in northwest Iowa. Primary Responsibilities
This critical dual role involves managing the district's financial operations and fulfilling the duties of the Secretary to the Board of Education. This position would work closely with both the Superintendent and Business Office Manager.
Key Duties:
- Fiscal Leadership: Direct the district's financial operations, including developing, managing, and forecasting the annual certified budget, and preparing monthly reports for the Board.
- Compliance: Ensure precise adherence to all regulatory reporting and requirements from the Iowa Department of Education, State Auditor, and federal agencies.
- State Reporting: Management and completion of the district’s state reports typically associated with the office of the SBO.
- Board Secretary: Manage all legal aspects of Board meetings, record accurate minutes, coordinate district elections, and maintain all official school records.
Qualifications and Requirements

Your Qualifications:
- Credentials: Possess, or be eligible to obtain, an Iowa School Business Official Authorization. A degree in accounting, finance, or business is required. See THIS link from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for more information regarding the SBO credentialing process.
- Experience: Experience in municipal or school finance is desirable, but not required.
- Technical Proficiency: Skills in Microsoft Excel, Google, and ability to learn & use financial management software; knowledge of State of Iowa accounting systems is beneficial.
- Competencies: Demonstrated ability in complex financial analysis, clear communication of financial concepts, and precise organizational skills.
