Summary Job Description

Covenant Day seeks a part-time school nurse who serves during the ten-month academic year and works as part of a nursing team in support of the school’s mission. The individual in this role will support efforts to provide consistent nursing care across campus with primary focus on our lower school students. The school nurse provides direct professional nursing service, first aid, illness and emergency care for students. This includes managing medicine distribution processes and consultation and care to students. The nurse may also partner with other nurses on staff to conduct training programs such as first aid, CPR and other educational opportunities for faculty and staff. Reporting to the lead school nurse, the position is part-time, non-exempt (hourly), and will begin in August 2026 with the new school year. The role serves approximately twenty hours per week (likely to be worked as one full day and three half days).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing service, first aid, illness and emergency care to students in need of these services
  • Oversee the process and appropriate documentation for securing and administering student medicines during the normal school day.
  • Partner with food services to ensure safety for students with allergies
  • In partnership with the lead nurse, develop and implement procedures and provide for crisis intervention for emergency needs
  • Use Magnus electronic charting system for student health records, and maintain training/knowledge of the system
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Head of School

Qualifications

  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life 
  • Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship
  • Current Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina; BSN degree beneficial; CPR certification required (or willing to obtain)
  • Minimum of two years RN experience working with young children and adolescents
  • Positive attitude and genuine love for and ability to connect with students of all ages across campus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents and Faculty/staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (email); ability to be trained and use electronic charting system
  • Able to occasionally lift up to forty pounds.
