07/24/2026 Additional Information: Show/Hide - To supervise the security and patrol of a school building to ensure a safe and secure environment and the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
- Plans, organizes, supervises and performs security and work and operations according to standard procedure.
- Ensures the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and school district property in accordance with school district policies to provide an educational climate which is conducive to learning.
- Assigns, supervises and conducts security patrols of the building.
- Enforces Board of Education policies with regard to smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.
- Takes corrective action as needed and reports concerns and incidents which may require additional corrective action to the Principal, Director of Facilities, law enforcement authorities and/or others as required.
- Encourages appropriate student conduct with regard to school rules and regulations.
- Assists visitors to the school in receiving proper direction and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the building.
- Monitors buildings and grounds, including exits, and prevents unauthorized exits of the building by students.
- Checks student passes when classes are in session.
- Escorts students to and from Principals' offices as directed.
- Assists school administrators with investigations as assigned.
- Separates students involved in altercations and maintains crowd control as needed, using reasonable force in accordance with Board policy.
- Coordinates training of security staff in proper security measures, appropriate force and school district policies and procedures.
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of security employees.
- Assists in the evaluation of security employees on an annual basis and at other times in accordance with school district guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
- Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
- Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures

- Regular, timely/dependable, in person attendance is an essential function of this position
- Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy, state, or federal guidelines
- Read, understand, and abide by the Professional Educator Code of Conduct Policy, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by LCS.
- Perform related duties as required by supervisors or other administrators.
- Use personal computers and related equipment, and radio communications equipment.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing building security and safety.
- Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and codes related to building safety and security, including OSHA, and Electronic Surveillance laws.
- Knowledge of security and alarm systems, electronic surveillance, and related safety and security devices.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal, security guards and others.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.
- Ability to problem solve and resolve work related safety and security issues.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, local law enforcement officials and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to provide oral and written instructions to subordinate employees and supervise in a respective manner.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Physical ability to separate students involved in altercations using appropriate methods.

- Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Successful experience in security and/or law enforcement.
- Experience working with adolescents.
- Supervisory experience or training.
- Mississippi Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation
