Type: Contract (1099 / hourly or project-based)
Location: Arizona (local presence preferred; hybrid/onsite as needed)
Hours: Variable based on project scope (part-time)
Compensation: Based on hours worked or fixed project deliverables
Travel: Minimal to moderate (client-dependent)
Role Overview
The Security Consultant (Contract) provides advisory, assessment, and program development services to organizations seeking to strengthen their cybersecurity posture. This role is part-time and project-based, focused on delivering high-impact security outcomes aligned to business needs, compliance requirements, and risk management priorities.
The consultant works independently or alongside client leadership to design, implement, and mature cybersecurity programs, while ensuring measurable improvements in risk reduction and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver security assessments, risk evaluations, and gap analyses
- Design and implement cybersecurity programs aligned to business objectives
- Provide executive-level advisory and translate technical risk into business insights
- Build and mature incident response, risk management, and compliance frameworks
- Support alignment with standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA
- Develop actionable roadmaps and measurable security improvements
- Lead client discussions and ensure delivery quality and client satisfaction
Qualifications
- 10+ years in cybersecurity, consulting, or security leadership roles
- Experience as Security Consultant, Architect, or CISO/vCISO
- Strong expertise in risk management, compliance, and security operations
- CISSP or equivalent certification preferred
- Proven ability to work independently and deliver results in client-facing environments
Certifications (Preferred)
- CISSP (strongly preferred) [Jim mapes...e May-2024 | Word]
- CISM, CISA, Security+, or equivalent
