Job Description

JOB TITLE:            Senior Mine Engineer                     
DEPARTMENT:     Technical Services
LOCATION:            Robinson Mine - Ruth, NV
PAY GRADE:          7
POSITION REPORTS TO:    Chief Mine Engineer 
ROTATING SHIFT:     Yes ☐      No ☒

Purpose & Scope of The Position:  

The Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for short and long-term mine planning, mine surveying, assisting with geotechnical monitoring, and providing technical guidance/support for the Mine Department and other departments as required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices. 
  • Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of the short term mine plan (material sequence; access planning; pit design; shot muck inventory; blast design and planning; dump sequencing) to attain the Life of Mine Plan.
  • Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of the mid-range (18-24 months) mine plan (material sequence; access planning; pit design; shot muck inventory; blast design and planning; dump sequencing) to attain the Life of Mine Plan.
  • Assist in the creation, refinement and implementation of the Life of Mine Plan.
  • Coordinate mine surveying activities and other Field Engineering Technician assignments to fully optimize this group’s time and efficiency.
  • Coordinate mine planning and technical evaluation planning process and offer assistance or direct the activities for long and short-term projects (i.e. reclamation; hydrology; dump design; third party engineering studies; blasting techniques & procedures).
  • Generate optimal pit shell design utilizing the most current pit design programs.
  • Assist in developing accurate metal plans, particularly for budgeting purposes.
  • Assist Mine Operations department to determine equipment requirements.
  • Responsible for mine closure design and planning while working closely with the Environmental Resources Department.
  • Prepare accurate and defendable reserve statements.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as necessary to ensure the success of KGHM.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of Robinson Nevada Mining Company and KGHM.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering or Civil Engineering.  
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible mine engineering experience - open-pit mining operation preferred, but not required.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geologic Engineering or Civil Engineering.  
  • Experience: 
    • Mine Operations/Supervision experience would be beneficial.
    • Previous supervisory responsibilities.
    • Previous Project Management responsibilities.

 

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of mine planning, reserve estimation, and budgeting process.
  • Excellent analytical, management, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and in a team environment and communicate well with others.
  • A working knowledge of MineSight or other mine planning software package is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with acQuire, NPV Scheduler, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is preferred.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional for training or seminars.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Develop entry level engineers for advancement within the Technical Services Department.
  • Be a leader and motivator.

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
