Job Description

Essential Functions 


SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER

Ten or more years of experience, licensure preferred but not required, professional degree in architecture

from an accredited program. 

Creates project designs and plans for all phases of projects and coordinates building design consultants while monitoring drawings. 

Develops solutions and creates project designs and plans. Initiates and creates project designs and plans of all phases of one or more projects and has responsibility for preparing presentation and design drawings. 

Coordinates all trades and agencies related to building design while monitoring drawings. 

Typically has 10 or more years of experience in all phases of architecture and engineering, including substantial and varied experience in project planning.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Prepare preliminary and fully developed design materials and imagery for design presentations as well as business development and marketing pursuits.
  • Manages full development of design details. Work with documentation team in developing Construction Documents, and support construction phase activities as required to assist in successful implementation of design. 
  • Serves as Design Lead on selected projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in all conventional aspects of the practice of Architecture. Possesses thorough knowledge of architectural principles and practices in planning, development, evaluation, selection of materials and systems, and use of advanced techniques. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, 
  • Creatively solves problems when encountered and offers design guidance to the project team on complex projects.
  • Works independently on complex architectural design projects and coordinates project design efforts between multiple projects.
  • Directs and maintains frequent communication with the Design team to ensure proper information flow and assists in keeping team apprised of any changes or client activity that would have an impact on the project design.
  • Develops and adheres to project design schedules, deadlines and budgets. 
  • Plans, coordinates and attends meetings with clients and project team as necessary.

Project Involvement

  • Plans, leads and directs Project programming efforts.
  • Researches relevant client background, related project designs, and inspirational imagery to develop an informed understanding of project design requirements. 
  • Develops planning and creative design concepts for all aspects of a project (site and building), independently and in collaboration with Project Leadership.
  • Prepares presentation materials, drawings, models for client meetings.
  • Coordinates all trade and agencies related to building design while monitoring drawings. 
  • Researches and interprets applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes, and accurately applies these requirements in design process.
  • Directs and coordinates all aspects of project design from concept through construction administration with other members of project team. 
  • Develops required details to effectively and clearly convey design intent
  • Understands how to navigate through local zoning and approvals processes and assists PM in all necessary work for adherence. 
  • Researches materials and incorporates accurate information into drawings and project cut book and coordinates with specifications group.
  • When assuming the role of Lead Designer on projects, adhere to requirements of the role as listed in Project Leadership Document.

Other

  • Plans and participates in the preparation of proposal/interview materials to secure new business opportunities.
  • Supports new business development opportunities by providing experienced design knowledge.
  • Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested. 


Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education: Professional Bachelor’s or Master’s in Architecture 

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

  • Licensed Architect preferred
  • Revit, AutoCAD current versions
  • Sketch-up, Rhino, or other modeling software 
  • MS Office Suite – Excel, Word, MS Project  

Experience: 10+ years’ experience in related position
