Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and integrity of the organization. This position is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll oversight, and supporting budgeting and audit processes.

This role partners closely with Finance and HR leadership to ensure compliance, accuracy, and strategic financial insight across the agency.

What You�ll Do

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness

  • Analyze variances between actuals and budget and provide insights

  • Maintain and review general ledger accounts and supporting documentation

  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations

Payroll & Compliance

  • Serve as backup for payroll processing and review bi-weekly payroll prior to submission

  • Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries

  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure payroll compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation and benefits data

Accounting Operations

  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules

  • Support cash flow forecasting and revenue projections

  • Assist in the development of the annual budget

  • Ensure adherence to fiscal policies and internal controls

Audit & Special Projects

  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits

  • Support audit processes and respond to auditor requests

  • Participate in special projects and financial initiatives as assigned

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required

  • Bachelor�s degree in Accounting or related field

  • 5�6 years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger

  • Experience processing payroll for organizations with 75�150 employees

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with accounting systems (QuickBooks preferred)

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required

  • Occasional travel between sites or off-site locations

Additional Requirements

If the role requires driving, candidates must maintain a valid driver�s license, appropriate insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
