About Us

TAE Power Solutions (TPS) is the electrification spin-off from TAE Technologies, a leader in nuclear fusion technology. The company is leveraging unique power management technology originally developed for nuclear fusion and applying it in adjacent industries, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and DC Fast Charging for electric vehicles.

About the Role

The Senior Technical Program Manager (NPI & Prototype Programs) is responsible for leading end-to-end execution of internal product development, prototypes, pilot systems, and new product introductions (NPI). This role drives program governance, technical integration, and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate R&D outputs and ensure feasibility, testability, and readiness for scale.

This is a high-ownership role focused on operational discipline in early-stage programs, prototype execution, technical risk mitigation, and structured handoffs from design to pilot and pilot-to-scale readiness. The position does not own manufacturing or supply chain functions but partners closely with these teams to align readiness for subsequent scale.

Role Requirements

Program Governance & NPI Execution

  • Develop and maintain integrated program schedules for R&D, prototypes, pilots, and NPI initiatives.
  • Lead cross-functional planning and execution from concept, through design, prototyping, lab testing, and pilot builds.
  • Track critical path items, technical dependencies, and ensure timely milestone completion.
  • Conduct structured program reviews (weekly tactical + monthly executive + milestone-focused technical reviews).
  • Ensure clear handoffs from R&D / Engineering → Prototype/Test Labs → Pilots → Manufacturing/Scale.

Technical Integration & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Translate technical specifications and design outputs into executable prototype and pilot plans.
  • Ensure engineering designs are feasible for prototyping and can meet functional, safety, and test requirements.
  • Coordinate with R&D,Product, Engineering, Lab, Test, and QA teams to manage dependencies, integration risks, and technical alignment.
  • Identify gaps in tooling, test infrastructure, or lab readiness and propose mitigation.
  • Support technology demonstrations, feasibility validations, and pilot testing with structured reporting.

Risk Management & Escalation

  • Establish and maintain structured technical risk registers for prototypes and pilots.
  • Lead root-cause-driven recovery and mitigation plans for technical challenges.
  • Escalate systemic risks early and provide executive clarity on tradeoffs and decision points.

Process Enablement & Scale Readiness

  • Define repeatable NPI and prototype program frameworks.
  • Standardize reporting, KPIs, and technical milestone governance across R&D, lab, and pilot programs.
  • Identify dependencies or bottlenecks that could impact future scale readiness.
  • Facilitate lessons-learned sessions to improve NPI process rigor and internal technical execution.

Scope of Authority

  • Owns internal program schedules, milestone accountability, and technical integration tracking.
  • Influences R&D, Engineering, and Lab execution, but does not manage Manufacturing or Supply Chain teams.
  • Drives executive visibility, technical decision-making, and readiness assessment for pilot-to-scale transition.

Required

  • 8+ years in Technical Program Management, NPI, R&D program management, or prototype-heavy execution roles.
  • Experience managing complex hardware, software, or integrated systems (BESS, power electronics, energy infrastructure, industrial systems).
  • Strong understanding of prototype, pilot, and NPI lifecycle processes.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional technical teams, labs, and R&D programs.
  • Proficiency in structured program tracking and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, etc.).
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder alignment skills

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience in early-stage hardware prototyping or R&D programs.
  • Exposure to battery energy storage systems (BESS), power conversion systems (PCS), or UPS systems.
  • PMP or equivalent program management certification.
  • Background in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems) or applied R&D.
  • Operational rigor for early-stage programs
  • Pilot-to-scale mindset

The compensation range for this role is between $115,000-130,000 + Benefits
