Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Division Manager- Operations, the Sergeant (Assistant Supervisor) is responsible for the daily oversight of operations while demonstrating the highest level of customer service. The Sergeant is responsible for the oversight of all personnel assigned to the zone(s) they supervise.
Compensation: Employees who, at the request of the Employer, serve as Assistant Supervisors shall receive
one dollar ($1.00) per hour in addition to their current rate of pay for each hour they serve in
this capacity.
Responsibilities:
The Sergeant duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
·Working with crews and ED staff to reduce APOT times.
· Responsible for crews going into service on time in their zone.
· Responsible for crews making post moves in a timely manner in their zone while communicating with EMS 90
· Follow up with crews that have extended chute times in their zone.
· Document any issues when needed for delayed start of shift, post moves, and chute times.
· Complete accident investigation packets – have an on-duty Captain drug test crew as needed.
·Complete on the job injury/exposure packets – request an on-duty Captain have the employee drug tested.
· Investigate employee and customer complaints.
· Respond to and assist with the management of complex incidents as needed or requested by partner agencies.
·Ensure that employees are following the uniform and personal grooming policies.
·Assist employees with clinical issues when necessary.
·Assist employees with broken equipment and/or restock equipment when necessary.
·Handle employee conflicts and conflicts with Fire department personnel
- Assist in managing and scheduling issues in their zone by coordinating with other captains or scheduling.
- Oversee operational readiness of EMS vehicles and equipment in their assigned shift hubs.
- Monitor and report any safety issues
- Prepare and completed daily shift reports of activities and incidents to higher management.
Qualifications:

The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications:
·Three (3) years EMS experience as a full-time Paramedic in a high-performance 911 system with two (2) year in Alameda County
· Strong customer service background.
· Driving record in compliance with Company policy regarding insurability.
· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience in clinical education (highly recommended).
· No QI issues or formal PIP within previous 2 years.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Outlook

Education Requirements:
The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare or appropriate field of study or equivalent experience preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
· A valid California Class C driver’s license with an Ambulance Driver certificate
·Current California Paramedic license
·Current CPR certification
·Current Medical Examiners certification
·ACLS certification
· PALS certification
· ITLS or PHTLS certification
· Instructor ratings in ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, , 12 Lead highly recommended
· EVOC Instructor at time of hire or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
· ICS Courses: 100, 200, 300, 700, , 800, SEMS, HazMat FRO, AWR-160 highly recommended at time of hire or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
· Infection Control Training highly recommended
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Frequently: Ability to lift, carry, and balance 110 pounds; ability to exert on a regular basis 50 pounds of force and at times up to 100 pounds.
Constantly: Ability to bend and stoop, ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, possess hand-eye-foot coordination and color recognition, good manual dexterity, with the ability to perform all tasks related to EMS Duty.
