The IT Support Services Branch (ITSS) within the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) at STScI is seeking a Service Desk Specialist I to join the Service Desk team. This role provides world-class customer service and technical support to STScI staff and partners.
This position supports a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the local market (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC, or WV). This role requires on-site presence three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Manage user accounts within Active Directory, including provisioning, deactivation, and ongoing maintenance.
- Provide technical support to staff and partners through in-person assistance, telephone, and various collaboration tools.
- Execute routine operational tasks in accordance with established procedures; proactively identify and escalate issues to second- or third-tier support and management as needed.
- Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborate effectively as a team member to achieve organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Strong technical skills, including knowledge of hardware, software, and operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in an interrupt-driven environment.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.
Additional Requirements
- ITAR clearance required.
- Must be able to work on-site three days per week.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. STScI offers an excellent benefits package, including:
