This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all equipment and company assets while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Generalist is responsible for performing skilled maintenance tasks to support continuous plant operations. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment, utilities, and systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. Maintenance Generalists play a critical role in minimizing downtime, supporting safety and food quality standards, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and Tyson requirements. This position works in a fast-paced environment and requires adaptability, technical knowledge, and a safety-first mindset.
 

Essential Duties:

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment failures quickly and effectively to support production needs.
• Document work performed using SAP.
• Assist in equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications as directed.
• Use hand and power tools, welders, and basic diagnostic devices to complete maintenance tasks.
• Support safe work practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permitting.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance areas in a clean and organized condition.
• Perform other duties as assigned by maintenance lead or supervisor.
 

Additional Responsibilities:

• Communicate clearly with production, sanitation, and QA personnel to identify issues and share maintenance status.
• Identify and report recurring problems and recommend long-term solutions.
• Support other maintenance personnel in large repairs or special projects.

Job Requirements

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical drawings.
• Proficient use of hand tools, welding equipment, and multimeters.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and system navigation (SAP, email, etc.).
 

Soft Skills:

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
 

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Stand, walk, bend, reach, and kneel for extended periods (entire shift – approx. 8+ hours).
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
• Work in a wet, cold, and noisy environment (approx. 40°F–50°F).
• Exposure to moving equipment, pressurized systems, and chemicals used for sanitation.
• Work at heights, or on ladders or platforms when required.
 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

• Hearing protection: Required
• Slip-resistant footwear: Required
• Hard hat: Required
• Cut-resistant gloves: Required when working with sharp tools or materials
• Safety glasses: Required
• Other PPE as designated by task (e.g., welding helmet, face shield, respiratory protection)
 

Job Qualification & Ramp-Up Program:

Standard Performance Expectation:

• Demonstrate ability to complete standard PMs and basic troubleshooting tasks with minimal supervision by the end of the ramp-up period.
 

Job Safety Analysis (JSA) - Potential Hazards & Controls:

Electrical Shock – Follow proper LOTO procedures and use insulated tools.
Falls from Height – Use fall protection and follow ladder/platform safety procedures.
Cuts, Burns, and Pinch Points – Wear appropriate PPE and stay clear of moving parts.
Chemical Exposure – Wear chemical-resistant PPE and follow SDS guidelines.
Ergonomic Strain – Use proper lifting techniques and request help when needed.



As this position is slated for team members who are currently working at this facility or complex, This requisition will prioritize Internal candidates, first.

 

Disqualifiers:

Must have passed the probationary period.
Can not have won a job bid within the last 3 months.

No more than 7 attendance points at the time of bid.

No written warnings in the last 6 months.

No suspensions in the last 6 months.

The winning candidate will be determined through an interview process.
