Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Drive and operate a commercial semi-truck and trailer rig in a proper, safe, efficient manner by moving finished goods and/or supplies from dock to dock or facility to facility as needed.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for all trailer moves to and from docks and drop yards and facility to facility.
- Keep the yard orderly.
- Perform basic yard jockey duties including daily yard checks.
- Monitors and ensures that safety chocks are in place for trailers during loading process and removed for return to yard area.
- Operate tractor at safe speed while on yard and shuttling finished goods or raw materials from one location to another.
- Sufficient strength and dexterity to control tractor and hitch full or empty trailer.
- Be physically able to enter/exit vehicle a combined average of 80-100 times within an 8-10 hour shift.
- Be able to withstand changing weather conditions, rain, heat, cold, etc.
- Assist in shipping and/or receiving area when no primary duties of spotting or shuttling are necessary.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITES

- Immediately report any work related injury or illness.
- Keep the work area neat and free of hazards. THE USE OF COMPRESSED AIR WITHOUT PROPER SAFETY NOZZLE IS PROHIBITED FOR CLEAN-UP.
- Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Always ensure proper lifting techniques: avoid bending and twisting at the waist whenever possible.
- Inspect tools and protective equipment before use.
- Learn the hazards of the equipment and procedures used on the job.
- Report any defective, malfunctioning, or suspicious tool, machine, or protective equipment immediately.
- Participate in safety training and safety meetings.
- Report any hazards or risks related to policies or procedures.
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS
- Class A certified driver’s license.
- 2-year Verifiable Class A Tractor Trailer experience in past 5 years.
- Drivers are expected to meet all Southern Motion qualifications, DOT requirements and Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations
- Drivers must successfully pass a road test and Physical Qualification and Examinations in accordance with DOT.
- 1-year DOT medical certification required.
- No more than 3 violations within the last three years, personal or commercial.
- No DOT Recordables or Preventables in the past 3 years.
- No Suspensions or Revocations in the past 5 years.
- No DUI’s.
- Must have clean Criminal Background
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Basic reading and writing skills required.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate the English language.
SAFETY
- Personal Protection Equipment should be worn at all times within the department as well as throughout the plant where designated.
- Safety is enforced each day to prevent any accidents.
