Job Description

Location: San Carlos, CA

We’re building Portals — custom communication pods deployed in libraries and public spaces to expand access to essential services. These private, technology-enabled spaces allow people in underserved communities to attend telehealth appointments, take exams, access government services, and connect securely online when they otherwise wouldn’t have a safe or reliable environment.

Once a Portal leaves our Fab Lab, this role helps ensure it arrives, installs, and operates successfully in the real world.

We’re looking for a Site Deployment Engineer to support the successful delivery and installation of Portals in customer environments alongside our Deployment & Field Operations Lead.

This role combines hands-on installation work, logistics support, and onsite technical execution. You’ll travel to deployment sites, assist with installation and system setup, troubleshoot issues, and help bring each Portal fully online before customer handoff. When not traveling to customer sites for installations, you will be based in the Fab Lab supporting assembly and build activities for Portals.

You’ll work closely with the Deployment & Field Operations Lead, fabrication teams, and customers to ensure deployments run smoothly.

This is a builder/operator role — ideal for someone who enjoys working with hardware, traveling to real-world environments, and solving problems hands-on.

About your role at Ready ⚡️

  • Travel to customer locations to assist with Portal delivery, unloading, assembly, and installation

  • Support mechanical setup, power-up, and system validation onsite

  • Configure and test networking, connectivity, and AV systems under guidance from the Deployment Lead

  • Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, or installation issues during deployments

  • Help ensure each Portal is operational prior to customer handoff

  • Assist with shipment preparation and deployment readiness at the Fab Lab

  • Support coordination of installation logistics and site readiness

  • Work alongside local contractors or installation teams during deployments

  • Help maintain installation checklists, tools, and deployment equipment

  • Document deployment outcomes, issues, and lessons learned

  • Provide onsite support during customer training and handoff

  • Assist with post-install troubleshooting and field support needs

  • When not on deployments, support assembly, build, and integration work for Portals in the Fab Lab

A bit about you 🥇

  • Experience in field installation, AV deployment, hardware setup, technical operations, or similar hands-on work

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort assembling physical systems

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical or hardware issues with guidance

  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments and solving problems onsite

  • Willingness to travel frequently for deployments (40%–60%)

  • Strong attention to detail and reliability during execution work

  • Comfortable interacting with customers and site staff

  • AV installation or low-voltage wiring experience

  • Basic networking or WiFi setup experience

  • Experience supporting hardware deployments or installations

  • Background in facilities support, construction assistance, or technical field work

  • Experience working alongside contractors or installation crews
