Organizational Relationship


or Line of Authority:           


Responsible to the Principal in all matters pertaining to the building, the Director of Special Education in all areas of Special Education and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.


 


 


Statement of Duties:            



  • The speech-language pathologist is responsible for providing clinical supervision to speech-language assistants, evaluating students with suspected communication disabilities, and providing speech-language services to students with Individual Education Programs in the schools.


 



  • Deals with treatment or applications of remedies for the cure, alleviation, or prevention of speech disorders.


 



  • Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program to promote students’ receptive and expressive language skills for school success.


 



  • Provides an individualized education program to meet individual needs of speech-language disabled students using evidence based multi-sensory approaches.


 



  • Uses evidence based practices to consult with teachers about students who demonstrate communication disabilities.


 



  • Keeps thorough and on-going records, using qualitative and quantitative data, for individual students receiving speech-language services.


 



  • Organizes speech program in assigned schools.


 



  • Plans the therapy schedule including pupils in groups or individual, depending upon their classification and severity.


 



  • Provides evaluations for Team Evaluations.


 



  • Notifies parents of findings and progress via semi-annual reports.


 



  • Attends TEAM meetings when requested.


 



  • Keeps accurate individual records.


 



  • Completes individualized education plans when requested.


 



  • Responsible for other instructional and general duties as indicated by the Principal, the Director of Special Education and the Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designees and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.


 


Qualifications:



  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Speech Language and Hearing Disorders - Required


 



  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure – Speech Language Pathologist – Required


 



  • Possession of a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology


 



  • Three (3) years experience as an SLP


 



  • Such alternatives as determined by the Superintendent of Schools.
