Job Description

Nelnet Business Services (NBS), a division of Nelnet, Inc., provides payment technology, education services, and learning management solutions to education and faith-based organizations, serving more than 1,300 higher education institutions, 11,500 K-12 schools, 3,500 churches, and millions of individual students, families, and supporters across the globe. Our culture of service enables us to form long-lasting and trusted partnerships, while our focus on creativity and innovative solutions empowers our customer communities to thrive.

As a Nelnet company, the perks at NBS go beyond our benefits package. You’re part of a community, invested in you as an individual and united by our mission to create opportunities for people where they live, learn and work.

We’re FACTS Student Information System (SIS), and just like our parent company, Nelnet, we are dedicated to diversification and growth. We are people driven. As opportunities arise to diversify and apply our customer service and software expertise, we look to develop our associates to grow along this same path as our company.

Things move fast here so we’re agile and innovative in how we work, consistently looking at how we can improve. We’re only as good as our people – that’s where you come in.

What you’ll do:

As a Software Engineer II at FACTS SIS, you will be a key component of the application development process. You’ll work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters and other team members to better understand their needs in order to create new products and product features that will enhance and evolve FACTS SIS solutions.   You will also have the opportunity to mentor less experienced engineers and give guidance on adherence to best practices and development/quality standards. Lastly, you will be given ample opportunity to further your own technical knowledge and skills.

As a Software Engineer II, a typical day might include:
•    Be a member of a team who specializes in designing new products and features based on user requirements gathered from Product Owners.
•    Write code and automated tests for new features.
•    Review and provide feedback on development pull requests.
•    Provide guidance to less experienced engineers on their current development tasks.
•    Work within an Agile environment, responding to change quickly, including re-focusing development efforts and adapting to evolving requirements.
•    Stay current by updating personal and technical skills.

This position offers a hybrid work option. Nelnet values flexibility and understands the importance of work-life integration. Our hybrid work environment allows associates to work remotely for part of the week, while also fostering collaboration and team connection through in-office presence. The in-office requirement will fluctuate depending on the current need of the rotation and offers flexibility for candidates still attending college courses on campus through graduation.

Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. To be considered, candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship

You Have:
•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
•    Minimum of 3 years as a software development engineer delivering enterprise class web applications, with extensive experience in the following technologies - C#, ASP.Net Core, .NET Core, Web API, Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, JSON and REST.
•    Understanding of object-oriented design and SOLID development principles.
•    Experience developing microservices using C#.
•    Experience with Entity Framework.
•    Practical experience building, testing and consuming RESTful APIs.
•    A fundamental understanding of testing (including stubbing, functional, unit, and e2e).
•    Experience building single page applications using Angular or similar technologies.
•    Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to communicate with clients, colleagues, and management to explain complex issues clearly and concisely.

We Have:
•    Opportunities to work with current and cutting-edge technologies.
•    A culture of innovation -- you’ll be surrounded by people who think outside the box and are constantly looking for ways to improve, just like you do.
•    An agile team with dedicated people – we care about you and work hard for each other.
•    A diversified group of people varying in age and ethnicities.
•    Awesome benefits through Nelnet, including leadership training, Benefits and Wellness compensation opportunities, 401k, dental and health insurance, generous paid time off, and more!
