    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Pennsylvania Special Education certification
    • A minimum of three (3) years working within Special Education
    • Certification in Safety Care or willingness to obtain certification
    • Motor vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable 

    JOB GOAL

    To provide compliance with regulations and provisions specific to working with exceptional students, including but not limited to Giftedness, IEP's, and Section 504 service contracts. Provide oversight of department objectives within the educational mission of the school district and compliance with federal and state law.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Serve as Local Education Agency Representative at building level/outside provider level multidisciplinary team meetings as designated by the Director of Student Services.
    2. Assist with transition related activities for students transitioning to new grade levels including: ensuring that records are transferred appropriately, scheduling building and/or classroom visits, arranging tours and paperwork compliance.
    3. Assist with transition related activities for Early Intervention students who will be enrolling in kindergarten. Responsibilities include assisting with determining services needed, attending IU Early Intervention transition meetings, ensuring that all state Early Intervention timelines and identification procedures are followed and assisting with the kindergarten registration process.
    4. Periodically review IEPs to ensure compliance.
    5. Collaborate with appropriate staff and serve as a resource to school teams.
    6. Maintain knowledge of pedagogy, particularly of practices successful with the exceptional learner.
    7. Collaborate with staff to provide a positive learning environment that is consistent with instructional goals and appropriate student achievement.
    8. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, community and other staff.
    9. Accurately assess student progress, maintain records, and communicate with appropriate staff
    10. Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and classroom affairs as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
    11. Assist in interviewing applicants for special education positions including professional and instructional support staff.
    12. Comply with Title 22 Professional Standards and Practice, mandated reporting, district policies and established building procedures.
    13. Lead annual 504 service agreement meetings and maintain document writing.
    14. Serve as internal Applied Behavior Analysis coach, including collaboration with outside agencies, continuing with best-practices recommended within classrooms.
