Job Description

Summary:

Performs a wide variety of welding and general sheet metal fabrication jobs, including MIG and TIG welding, gas welding and brazing, resistance spot and projection welding, on a large variety of parts, meeting strict weld quality and close part tolerance requirements. Able to work from engineering drawings or specs. Perforrns necessary operator preventive maintenance on welding equipment. Capable of setting up welding equipment to appropriate settings to produce quality welds. Uses fixtures and measuring equipment to ensure part tolerance.

Performs other types of sheet metal work as required, possibly including punching, bending & forming, shearing, and other work as needed.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Quality

1. Participates in corporate programs and initiatives.

2. Performs responsibilities to meet requirements of internal and external customers.

3. Performs job responsibilities with attention to quality and continuous improvement.

4. Inspects and evaluates components, and rejects defective items.

5. Follows work instructions and procedures.

Machine Set-Up and Operations

1. Sets up and operates a variety of production machines and tools including spot welders, scissor welder, projection welder, sander, punch presses, mig welder, tig welder, press brakes, and gas welder and others.

2. Selects correct tooling and fixtures and adjusts equipment to correct settings.

3. Reads and interprets blueprints, checking parts to prints to ensure that parts are manufactured to specifications. Reviews and interprets job aids and shop orders.

4. Uses measuring instruments, such as verniers and gages, to measure material, making necessary adjustments to ensure quality parts.

5. Performs basic shop math calculations to correctly set up machine.

6. Reads, interprets and completes routine paperwork; records proper information.

7. Trains others on machine operation, safety, and department guidelines.

8. When problems arise, notifies group leader immediately.

Preventive Maintenance

1. Performs operator machine maintenance (clean, monitor for oil leaks, lubricate).

2. Checks lubrication levels, drains water traps, listens for unusual noises, and looks for worn belts and components.

3. Notifies group leader of problems.

Safety and Housekeeping

1. Conforms to Health and Safety requirements and company policy.

2. Adheres to machine safety guidelines.

3. Wears required safety apparel, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and back braces.

4. Wears required hearing protection.

5. Uses proper lifting techniques to lift up to 75 lbs., anything over 75 pounds with apparatus assistance.

6. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Results in products of high finished quality and satisfied customers as well as reduced rework.

Physical Requirements:

· Very heavy physical requirements.

· Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, anything over 75 pounds with apparatus assistance.

· Move up to 180 pounds.

· Continuous lifting of 5-25 lbs. throughout the day.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Overall, plant conditions good. Seasonal heat and drafts. Job hazards around machinery. Possible hazards due to improper handling and unsafe equipment operation.

Mental Requirements:

· Ability to read, write, perform basic math calculations, and communicate clearly.

· Ability to organize and coordinate tasks; inspect, estimate, interpret, and use judgement.

· May require certification.

Special Requirements:

Flexible to accept changes in work assignments as required to meet customer requirements. Versatile and capable of operating several machines and performing varied operations and assignments. Regularity of attendance is essential to ensure a high quality product and smooth manufacturing operations. Ability to work within extreme temperatures (55-100 degrees).

The Hourly rate for this position is $19.00 - $19.00
