Summary:
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is seeking to hire a Director of Marketing and Communications. This is a hands-on role that will lead the university's integrated brand marketing strategy to advance the reputation of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania as a leader in offering a high-quality education and to support its mission to preserve student access and success. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated marketing plan that communicates a clear and consistent university identity to all internal and external constituencies with the objective of advancing the university toward its strategic vision and mission and communicating the story of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. This employee will create and execute marketing programs and processes that drive both the enrollment and reputation goals of Cheyney University.
Essential Job Functions:
| 1. | Leads the direction, design, and production of all publications, web properties, social media initiatives, and advertising, to authentically reflect the key brand attributes of the university's identity. |
| 2. | Creates compelling marketing materials and data-driven impact reports to effectively showcase organizational results and ROI. |
| 3. | Collaborates with Directors, Deans, Department Chairs and Faculty to obtain information needed to market faculty expertise, academic programs and support services of the University. |
| 4. | Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment Management to develop and implement a comprehensive branding strategy to attract new students. |
| 5. | Manage departmental budget, vendor relationships, and agency partnerships. |
| 6. | Lead, mentor, and develop a team of marketing, communications, and creative professionals. |
| 7. | Establish key performance metrics and evaluate campaign effectiveness using analytics and insights. |
| 8. | Oversee digital presence, including website strategy, social media, email marketing, and emerging platforms. |
| 9. | Chairs a university marketing committee where the communications of enrollment management, university development, internal communications, and intercollegiate athletics are blended into one clear and consistent integrated marketing plan and brand strategy. |
| 10. | Partners closely with the Enrollment Services, Public Relations, and Sports Information team to design and implement marketing strategies that result in increased enrollment in university academic programs. |
| 11. | Provides strategic direction and project management for marketing functions; setting clear direction and aligning work with university priorities. |
| 12. | Collaborates with cross-functional teams throughout the university community. |
| 13. | Direct all internal and external communications, including announcements, speeches, publications, and crisis communications. |
| 14. | Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers, and key stakeholders. |
| 15. | Serve as institutional spokesperson or support executive leadership in that role. |
| 16. | Lead proactive media relations and reputation management initiatives. |
| 17. | Supervise content creation across channels, including storytelling, video, and multimedia production. |
| 18. | Create strategic content that transforms impact data into compelling stories for use in campaigns. |
| 19. | Maintains a strong connection to professional organizations within higher education and consumer marketing to develop expertise on emerging trends and best practices suited to Cheyney University. |
| 20. | Performs additional duties as assigned by the Chief Advancement Officer |

Position Duties
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
Minimum bachelor’s degree, master’s degree is preferred in Marketing, Media Communications or a related field, and at least five to seven years of related professional experience. Experience in dynamic marketing research and analysis branding and material design is desirable. Demonstrated capacity to envision, design, and implement a successful and comprehensive marketing and communications strategy within an organization with multiple constituencies and complexity characteristic of the university.
Knowledge & Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of brand development and current marketing and communications trends, including new media channels.
- Skilled in developing compelling press releases that capture key messages and secure media coverage.
- Have a track record of developing and leading successful marketing and communications campaigns that achieve specific, measurable results.
- Demonstrated success conducting direct marketing and branding campaigns
- Strong knowledge of web-based advertising methods and emerging social media strategies with experience in developing successful lead acquisition, media buying, and search strategies
- A skill set that includes strong project management, visual and verbal creativity, and analytical thinking
- Exhibit use of market research and data analysis in implementing marketing plans.
- Demonstrate ability to integrate, manage, encourage and motivate a team of professionals.
- Exhibit leadership, analytical, creative messaging, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work constructively with a variety of constituents.
- Exhibit a strong work ethic and an energetic, influential and diplomatic work style,
- Excellent organizational and communication skills - both oral and written.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
