GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for analyzing and optimizing production processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity in a manufacturing environment. This role involves identifying inefficiencies in manufacturing lines, devising and executing plans for improvements including automation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement changes. The specialist provides hands-on support on the production floor, manages projects related to process enhancements, and ensures compliance with safety and quality standards. Works on problems of moderate scope, following standard practices and procedures to drive continuous improvement.
REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of direct manufacturing experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on involvement in process setup, equipment operation, and production optimization. College degree preferred.
Experience in communicating directly with internal teams, customers, and vendors. Ability to multi-task multiple projects at one time.
Track issues and assist in implementing corrective actions to keep operations on course.
Escalate complex issues and risks to management as needed.
Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, Lean principles, design of experiments, and capability studies.
Intermediate computer skills, including use of MS Office Suite.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with outside vendors and deliver presentations.
Eligible to work in an ITAR environment.
Travel up to 5% or more as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Analyzes manufacturing lines for current inefficiencies by observing operations, collecting data, and interpreting metrics from existing production systems to identify areas for improvement.
2.
Devises plans to improve efficiency and automation, including designing new processes, recommending equipment upgrades, and outlining implementation steps to maximize productivity without compromising quality or safety.
3.
Executes improvement plans by installing, commissioning, and testing new production tools or modifications, working closely with production teams, facilities, and vendors to ensure seamless integration.
4.
Supports, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequences, and processes in the manufacture of products. Uses projects to enhance safety, efficiency, and quality across manufacturing operations.
5.
Creates and updates work instructions, technique cards, and associated process documentation following established procedures, including change order and revision control.
6.
Trains production personnel on new or updated processes, ensuring correct understanding and application to maintain ease of use and accuracy.
7.
May supervise performance of assigned staff. Responsibilities include scheduling, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and evaluating performance.
8.
Networks with other department personnel, including engineers, supervisors, quality teams, and EHS, to address procedural and quality issues related to production and delivery.
9.
Conducts research and analysis to support process improvements, potentially establishing relationships with external entities for best practices in materials, equipment, or techniques.
10.
Manages and leads small teams of technicians as needed, providing direction, guidance, and mentorship to achieve departmental goals and foster collaboration.
11.
Ensures safety is a priority in all activities, including training on lock-out/tag-out techniques and adhering to good manufacturing practices.
12.
Takes measurements, collects data, and makes adjustments or corrections to production lines based on observations and analysis.
13.
Communicates effectively with superiors, peers, and affected workers, delivering professional presentations tailored to the audience.
14.
May be cross-trained in skills such as inspection, testing, project management, programming, and metrology.
15.
Performs any other related duties as required or assigned to support overall department and company objectives.
