Job Description

The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for managing complex tax compliance and consulting projects for a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff. The Sr. Tax Accountant will work closely with the Tax Operations Director to ensure exceptional client service and the successful execution of tax engagements.

Senior Tax Accountant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a self-motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing, forward-thinking, and family-oriented team. The responsibilities of this role include reviewing and finalizing corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns, as well as advising clients on tax strategy and collaborating with our team of accountants and preparers. This person will report directly to the Tax Operations Director.

The Senior Tax Accountant will be able to apply the best tax strategies to comply with laws, promote our client’s best interest, communicate with our team about industry changes, meet deadlines, and be an integral part of our high performing team.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tax Compliance and Review

·      Prepare, review, and finalize federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts

·      Identify and resolve complex tax issues, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations

·      Coordinate and manage tax filing deadlines and extensions. 

Tax Planning and Consulting

·      Assist clients in minimizing tax liabilities through effective tax planning strategies

·      Provide guidance on tax implications for business decisions and transactions

·      Research and communicate complex tax issues to clients and internal teams

Client Engagement

·      Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and service

·      Address client inquiries and provide recommendations based on tax law developments

·      Represent clients during tax inquiries and disputes as needed

Staff Development

·      Review work performed by Tax Administrators and Junior-Level Tax Accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance

·      Provide mentorship, training, and performance feedback to junior team members

·      Contribute to team development through knowledge sharing and leadership

Process Improvement and Technology Utilization

·      Identify opportunities to improve processes and workflow efficiency

·      Leverage tax software and technology tools for accurate and efficient work

·      Stay current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends

 Customer Service / Sales:

• Lead growth efforts through engagement in the delivery of client service & development of new clients.

• Perform detailed and technical tax review.

• Prepare and sign federal/state income tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and individuals.

• Advise clients on business tax, entity selection, cash flow, and income strategies.

• Regularly meet and communicate with clients to assess and finalize tax needs: projections, tax planning and answering a broad range of questions.

• Work with specific clients on IRS and State resolutions and perform tax research.

Education and Training:

• Track tax industry trends and regulation changes.

• Complete or exceed minimum continued education requirements annually.

• Obtain necessary certifications to support proficiency in tax preparation and accounting software knowledge.

Other:

• Problem-solve, troubleshoot, and suggest process improvements to maximize efficiency while maintaining accuracy.

• Participate in team meetings and events that support internal consistency, teamwork and create an enjoyable work atmosphere.

Education and Background:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Accounting. Master’s degree preferred.

• CPA or EA license required.

• Greater than 2 years of senior level tax preparation experience.

• Public accounting experience preferred but not required.

• Proficient in using tax software, UltraTax a plus.

• Experience with the Salesforce CRM tool a plus.

• Proficiency in use of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote) required.
