Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account and bank reconciliations, executing close processes, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and maintaining accounts payable transactions. Additionally, provides information as requested for management, tax returns, and audits. Also documents and evaluates current procedures, all while demonstrating an initiative in understanding process flows and controls.
Essential Functions/Skills:
- Analyze and evaluate financial data and prepare financial statements, supporting schedules and reports for review by management
- Maintain the fixed asset ledger, including depreciation schedules and capital project tracking
- Process and code operated well invoices for payment
- Review cash requirements weekly, and issue check, ACH and wire payments
- Maintenance and preparation of bank account reconciliation, including payment voids and reissues
- Maintain and reconcile prepaid expense schedules to ensure timely amortization and cost allocation
- Provide engineering and management with monthly cost reports and variance analysis
- Prepare and file reports required by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
- Review, prepare and pay annual property taxes for buildings and select well sites
- Maintain company vehicle records, including registration, tag renewals, and insurance cards
- Monitor and allocate insurance premiums
- Prepare year-end work papers for tax filings and financial review
- Prepare and review 1099 electronic filing for federal and state and mail 1099s to recipients
Requirements
- Five or more years’ oil and gas accounting experience
- Proficient in fundamental accounting skills: general ledger, accounts payable, and account reconciliations
- Initiative to consistently meet internal and external deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers
- Ability to research and prepare analysis to respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely, professional and thorough manner
- Enertia Software experience a plus
