Job Description

The barista is the face of a coffee shop, responsible for crafting high-quality beverages, managing transactions, and ensuring a welcoming environment. Core daily duties include mastering recipes, maintaining spotless equipment, operating point-of-sale systems, and providing exceptional, personalized customer service.


Responsibilities

Beverage & Food Preparation

  • Drink Crafting: Accurately measuring, grinding, and brewing coffee beans, and steaming milk according to specific shop recipes.
  • Specialty Drinks: Preparing a variety of hot and cold beverages like espresso, lattes, pour-overs, teas, and smoothies.
  • Food Prep: Heating, plating, and serving pastries, sandwiches, and other quick-service food items.
  • Quality Control: Calibrating espresso grinders and testing drinks to ensure the proper taste, temperature, and presentation (including latte art).

Customer Service

  • Welcoming Guests: Greeting customers warmly upon entry and maintaining a friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Menu Education: Answering questions about ingredients, origins of coffee beans, and roast profiles.
  • Personalization: Making tailored recommendations and building rapport to remember regular customers and their preferred orders.
  • Issue Resolution: Handling complaints and addressing customer feedback promptly and professionally.

Cash Handling & Point-of-Sale (POS)

  • Taking Orders: Accurately keying in orders, including special requests (e.g., alternative milks, extra shots).
  • Processing Transactions: Handling cash, processing credit cards, and counting back change accurately.
  • Inventory & Upselling: Suggesting retail items (like whole-bean coffee, mugs, or merchandise) to enhance the customer's experience.

Sanitation & Store Maintenance

  • Station Cleaning: Routinely wiping down countertops, sweeping floors, and clearing tables.
  • Equipment Upkeep: Washing used dishes, emptying espresso grounds, and deep-cleaning commercial coffee machines, grinders, and milk frothers.
  • Stocking: Restocking cups, lids, syrups, beans, and pastry displays to ensure a smooth workflow during busy periods.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience and great customer service skills is ideal

$25 Hourly
