Description

The Dayton Metro Library is recruiting for a full-time Student Success Liaison for our Trotwood Branch. The successful candidate for this position will assist patrons of all ages who visit the branch. In addition, they will be scheduled to staff the Student Success Center during its operating hours.  During their time in the Student Success Centers, they will be expected to engage with students in grades K-12 by assisting them with homework or with other educational activities. Essential Job Duties

-Demonstrates excellent internal and external customer service.  Proactively provides assistance at all service points as needed.

-Provides library users with assistance in reference, readers’ advisory, and in the use of public computers, personal electronic devices and library virtual materials.

-Works with youth to provide academic support through the Student Success Centers during the school year, as well as engaging youth in a variety of literacy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities during non-academic periods (summer break) to prevent academic loss.

-Serves as liaison between Information Technology Services and Student Success Centers. Troubleshoots and maintains automation/electronic equipment.

-Assists with maintaining data as well as compiling monthly and annual reports. Communicates program highlights, statistics, and concerns to Student Success Manager.

-Provides service and maintains liaisons with schools and community agencies.

-Performs circulation responsibilities and related activities as needed.

-Assists with opening and closing duties.

-Under the direction of a manager, may assist with collection development activities such as redistribution, purchase suggestions or preliminary deselection.

-Submits required reports and budget requests. May serve on library committees.

Requirements

Job Qualifications

-Applicants must have either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or four years of experience in teaching/tutoring K-12 students.

-Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

-Ability to determine a student’s information needs. Ability to actively listen and understand directions to assist students.

-Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and apply active listening skills.

-Ability to communicate effectively when dealing with patrons, staff and members of the community.

-Ability to effectively provide one-on-one instruction and present public training sessions.

-Ability to deal effectively with confrontational individuals and/or challenging situations.

-Ability to determine patron information needs. Ability to construct a competent and complete search strategy using both print and non-print information resources. Knowledge of adult, teen, and children’s materials and reader’s interests.

-Ability to develop programs and services to meet the needs of students in the Student Success Centers. 

 

Work Schedule:  Monday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Tuesday, Wednesday and alternating Friday/Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Thursday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM *Subject to change*

 

Compensation and BenefitsStarting hourly rate for this position is $21.09.  Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
