About the Department

The purpose of this position is to provide individualized academic support to Lewis and Clark Community College students; specifically in English and writing. Key responsibilities include explaining difficult concepts and helping students with their homework or study skills.
Position Duties
- Provide student-centered support by tutoring students in the Student Success Center to enhance success and retention in speech communication courses, fostering confident and mastery of essential skills.
- Assist students in preparing and delivering speeches and writing papers, promoting critical thinking and effective communication skills.
- Implement targeted interventions for student identified as a risk of withdrawal, helping them stay engaged and achieve their goals.
- Communicate with and refer students to appropriate student support services as determined by student need.
- Help facilitate student support group activities such as study groups to encourage collaboration and peer learning.
- Maintain accurate student contact records for all communication.
- Assist in collection of student feedback through surveys and other tools to inform program enhancements that improve course completion rates.
- Participate in self-assessment and professional development and support College-wide initiatives and serve on committees.
- Assist students with general computer and printing needs within the computer lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree required in Speech Communication or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and individual diversity and values.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Blackboard, and other general software.

- Experience tutoring college-age or adult education students.
