    POSITION SUMMARY:
    We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Specialist for the 2025�2026 school year to support students in grades K�5 with targeted academic interventions in literacy and numeracy. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in delivering small-group instruction, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with school teams to ensure all learners succeed. The Specialist will work under the direction of the Building Administrator and in coordination with district supervisors, department leaders, and instructional coaches, as applicable.
    This role requires a dynamic educator committed to equity, responsive teaching, and ongoing professional growth, with the ability to adapt instruction to meet a range of learner needs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Deliver Tier 2 and Tier 3 small-group instruction in reading and math aligned with district-approved intervention programs
    • Support student growth through individualized intervention planning and progress monitoring
    • Identify academic needs using data and collaborate with teacher teams to inform instruction
    • Assist in preparing documentation and reports for SRBI (Scientific Research-Based Interventions) and Building Leadership Team (BLT) meetings
    • Utilize intervention programs such as SIPPS Phonics, Bridges Math, Read 180, Math 180, System 44, and other research-based tools
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and support staff to align instructional strategies
    • Implement inclusive and culturally responsive practices that foster a supportive learning environment
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and complete required documentation
    • Participate in school-based teams, data analysis meetings, and professional development
    • Perform other duties and special assignments as directed

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    • Strong understanding of foundational reading and mathematics instruction
    • Knowledge of research-based intervention strategies and data-informed instruction
    • Ability to adapt teaching to support diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504s
    • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
    • Skilled in progress monitoring and data documentation
    • Experience with instructional technology and adaptive learning tools
    • Culturally responsive and inclusive educational practices

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum:
      • Connecticut certification in Elementary Education or K�12 (appropriate endorsement required)
      • Experience teaching foundational reading and mathematics
    • Preferred:
      • Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese)
      • Certification in Special Education, Literacy, Mathematics, or as a Reading Specialist
      • Experience in a diverse, urban school setting
      • Technological proficiency with digital intervention tools

    SALARY:
    Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education, available on the district website.
