Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an advanced professional position providing direct therapeutic services to identified mental health and substance abuse clients. The therapist will be responsible for maintaining patient care in accordance with program guidelines and external standards (Joint Commission, Medicaid, etc.). The counselor will provide clinical services to the following populace: individual, family and group therapy to children, adolescents, and adults.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Substance Abuse Specialist must be an LMHC, LCSW, or LMFT. A registered intern must be certified as a Certified Addiction Specialist and have two years working with individuals with Co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. Must be 21 years of age or over, have a valid Florida driver's license, car insurance, and reliable transportation is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Abilities in reaching, bending, talking, fingering, sitting, carrying, standing, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to hear, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under stress. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds of dead weight alone. May be required to complete standing presentations involving speaking and listening to audience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

General office and health care setting. May be required to travel within Hillsborough County via agency vehicle or personal vehicle to provide services in a community setting. Most work completed while seated using standard office equipment. Multi-tasking, fast paced, team approach requiring above average time management skills.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Substance use assessments that consider the relationship between substance use and mental health,
  • Assessment and tracking of participants' stages of change readiness and stages of treatment,
  • Outreach and motivational interviewing techniques,
  • Cognitive behavioral approaches and relapse prevention, and
  • Treatment approaches that are consistent with the participants' stage of change readiness.
  • Will assist with caseload and may assist with transportation when needed. May deliver medications to patients and document patient self-administration of medications.
  • All direct service staff will rotate on call, working evening hours, and weekend coverage, so must be available for rotation of these changing hours.
