About the Opportunity

The Minnesota JCC seeks seasonal Summer Camp Counselors for the 2026 summer camp season. Camp Counselors are energetic, fun-loving individuals who are excited to work with youth as part of a summer camp team in a dynamic outdoor environment. Camp Counselors create a welcoming and positive group environment, are a good leader and mentor, help the group carry out planned activities, and ensure campers are having a safe and positive camp experience.  

 

Daily Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8-hour daily shifts, earliest arrival is 8:30am and latest departure is 4:30pm. May include evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Base Compensation:

$114 day (based on an 8-hour workday). Plus opportunities for additional pay/bonuses.

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of all campers while at camp.  
  • Attends and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session. Participates in the open house and any family events.  
  • Helps the group plan and carry out all activities.  
  • Ensures that all campers are safe, involved in activities, and are having a positive experience.  
  • Contributes to the planning and implementation of group times, unit programs, field trips, late nights, overnights, and cookouts as assigned.  
  • Expected to get in the pool with the campers and fully participate in all other camp specialty activities.  
  • Helps clean up camp areas (i.e. villages, tent, fields, lodge, etc.).  
  • May be called upon to contribute some special skills, depending on ability, to the group’s or camp’s programs, such as leading games or songs.  
  • If assigned, assumes share of responsibility for bus duty.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the camp leaders.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Experience working with children desired, but not required.
  • Passionate about making a positive impact on a young person’s life.

 

Abuse Risk Management 

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with participants
  • Attend required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high risk activities and supervising participants
  • Report inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements

 

Physical Demands
