Job Summary
 The Lift/Alpine Slide Operator helps oversee the daily operation of a chair lift, alpine slide, and Spider Monkey inflatable slide, which includes but is not limited to assisting properly ticketed guests in loading and unloading to and from chair lifts, alpine slide, and Spider Monkey inflatable slide while maintaining safe conditions in and around lift terminals, slide areas, and inflatable slide attractions, and ensuring positive guest relations with each customer.

The Lift Operations Department offices and locker room are located in the Operations Building in the upper village area across from the historic Chalet Building, which houses the Hellroaring Saloon. Summer lift staff report directly to the lift or attraction scheduled.

Job Relationships
 Reports to: Lift Manager; Supervisors
 Employees Supervised: 1 Attendant
 Interrelationships: Works closely and communicates effectively with all Lift department employees, lift maintenance, other mountain personnel, and guests.

Job Specifications

  • Must be available for full-time work (32–40 hours per week, 4 to 5 days per week).
  • Minimum two years of high school, trade school, or equivalent.
  • Minimum one season of work experience as a lift attendant.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Skill in operating basic machinery.
  • Ability to provide accurate information and maintain a good attitude during stressful situations.
  • Ability to speak clearly and communicate thoroughly with customers and co-workers.
  • Willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Must be in good physical health with no restrictions.
  • Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.

Specific Duties

  • Willing to work and provide exemplary guest service at various summer Lift Operations work sites including, but not limited to, chair lifts, Alpine Slide, and Spider Monkey Inflatable Slide attraction.
  • Perform opening and startup procedures to prepare lifts and attractions for a safe and timely opening every morning.
  • Prepare for and carry out emergency procedures as required.
  • Carry out daily lift and alpine slide inspections; maintain lift log neatly and completely first thing in the morning.
  • Remain in full compliance with ANSI, company, and department policies, including but not limited to signage, staff appearance, attendance, safety procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for rotation of breaks, lunches, and job duties.
  • Ensure lift shack is clean and trash is emptied daily.
  • Ensure lift is supplied with tissue, paper towels, cleaner, trash bags, etc.
  • Maintain ramps to ensure cleanliness and safety markings are in place.
  • Notify Supervisor or Manager of any safety concerns.
  • Monitor and perform proper ticket scanning operations — every ticket, every ride.
  • Shut down lift at end of day, starting with last chair procedures; sign out on lift log with time noted.
  • Responsible for completing Incident Accident reports and/or calling Supervisor to assist.
  • Delegate duties to crew and contact administration via radio when extra help is needed.

Work Environment

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds routinely.
  • Able to work while standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
  • Able to engage in repetitive body motion involving upper body torque during the loading and unloading of guests, sleds, and bikes to and from chairs.
  • Able to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.

Safety & Wellness

  • Support and actively promote the success of the Winter Sports, Inc. Health & Safety Process, including participation in ongoing programs.
  • Follow and comply with OSHA standards as defined by company policy and procedures.
  • Report any injury and/or unsafe working condition to the operator, Supervisor, or Manager as soon as possible.
