Duties

As a SUPERVISORY AUDITOR GS-0511-14 your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Ability to lead and conduct complex audits of programs, functions and operations using performance audit, and evaluation techniques, to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Ability to provide technical and administrative leadership of an audit team, including providing recommendations, follow up, and ensuring necessary corrective action has been taken. Ensure work complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) Auditing Standards as issued by The Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Government Performance and Results Act, and other regulations, principles, precedents, and policies to analyze and solve complex and sensitive problems and issues. Ability to communicate with multidisciplinary staff and high-level officials to advocate support, provide guidance and make recommendations to resolve sensitive and/or controversial program issues and to negotiate and persuade key leaders to adopt certain approaches. Skill in writing clear and concise communications, such as policies, reports, and memoranda for different audience levels using various forms of software.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR AUDITORS: You must have either A or B: A. Degree: auditing; or degrees in auditing, economics, public administration, public policy, public health, environmental studies, environmental policy, political science, or related areas. OR B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours. All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. You may qualify for the GS-14 grade level, if you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector, or the equivalent in the private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position your specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, organizing and conducting complex audits and evaluations of major programs; Providing technical direction and project management oversight to team members; Gathering and evaluating financial or programmatic data and presenting and justifying findings; Preparing reports obtaining recommendations to improve internal controls and/or improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations to senior management officials.
