Under minimum supervision, communicates effectively and provides services in instructional areas of aquatic programs according to YMCA policies, while maintaining a safe environment. Assists in the development of policies, procedures, scheduling and budgets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures.
2. Serves as swim lesson deck supervisor if not teaching a current class.
3. Builds relationships with swim lesson participants and parents to help retain swim lesson program.
4. Maintain clean and safe aquatics area during swim lesson times.
5. Keep track of swim lesson equipment needs and communicate to Aquatic Director what needs to be purchased.
6. Assist in scheduling swim lesson program times for all ages and abilities.
7. Keep track of attendance for swim lesson participants.
8. Schedule swim instructors during times requested for group and private swim lessons.
9. Fill in when needed for Swim Instructors.
10. Assist in the development of new aquatic programs.
11. Help instruct during Y Splash times and recruit staff to work during Y Splash times.
12. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
· Able to lift up to 50 lbs
· Physical and mental requirements for the certification course outlined in Qualifications
· Occasional climbing, balances, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
· Frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs.
· Frequent exposure to wet and humid conditions

QUALIFICATIONS
· Current YMCA Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant preferred
· Current CPR and First Aid certifications
· Completion of Fundamental of Teaching YMCA Swim Lessons preferred
· Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructors: Parent-Child, Preschool and Youth and Adult are preferred
· 2-year degree preferred
· 2-4 years aquatic programs experience
