Position Overview

The System III Operator is primarily responsible for preparing and operating raw and finish mill equipment used in the blending and grinding of materials within the cement manufacturing process. This role works closely with the Control Room to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations. The operator monitors equipment performance, conducts inspections, and supports production goals while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards.


What You’ll Do

  • Inspect and operate raw and finish mill equipment and milling systems for the blending and grinding of materials as directed by the Control Room.
  • Operate milling systems from the Control Room when required.
  • Monitor equipment functions including motors, transmission guards, conveyors, and related machinery using approved operational checklists.
  • Maintain continuous communication with the Control Room during start-up and operations, reporting malfunctions, defects, or abnormal conditions.
  • Communicate daily with Shift Foreman, Control Room Operators, and other shifts regarding operational status.
  • Complete required safety and equipment inspection checklists prior to and during shift.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and conduct area inspections throughout shift.
  • Assist with movement, processing, and storage of materials as needed.
  • Support maintenance activities by assisting mechanics with minor repairs and cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Learn, understand, and comply with all company and plant safety policies, procedures, and MSHA regulations.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions and ensure safe operation of all assigned machinery and vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Leads, Foreman, Supervisors, or Management.

What You’ll Bring

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of raw and finish mill systems and related cement plant equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and basic maintenance practices.
  • Ability to monitor equipment performance and identify abnormal operating conditions.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding equipment operation and servicing.
  • Ability to understand and follow supervisor instructions, safety rules, operating procedures, and hazard notices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently when required and make appropriate operational decisions.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced industrial environment.


Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a cement producing plant or similar industrial operation required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Systems Operator of a lesser grade required.
  • Demonstrated full competency in executing routinely established tasks with thorough knowledge of plant equipment and machinery.
  • Working knowledge of secondary crushing, raw and finish systems, coke/coal systems, and their relationship to the cement manufacturing process required.
  • Ability to perform the duties of Systems Operator I, II, III, and IV and demonstrate ability to assist Control Room Operators required.


Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Ability to work extended shifts of 8 to 12 hours as required.
