JOB SUMMARY: Drive truck to transport materials to and from specified destinations. Verify load against shipping papers. Drive truck to specified destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in area. Prepare receipt for load picked up.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Comply with all Company policies, local work and safety rules and federal, state, and local regulations that govern the industry.
- Receive and verify dispatch instructions properly.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspect the operating condition of the tractor and trailer before and after trip, and when stopped in route.
- May maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations.
- May maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatch to receive delivery instructions.
- May perform emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, and tire chains.
- Communicate with supervision to receive instructions, report delays or safety hazards, and report accidents involving the driver or Company equipment.
- Prepare, inspect, and clean trailer before loading freight.
- Count all pieces of freight in loading and unloading.
- Review freight bills for special instructions. Check manifests for existing exceptions.
- When freight is loaded, check for special instructions, weight distributions on headloads and check headloads against the freight bills.
- Inspect the condition of freight and notify supervisors of any damaged freight.
- Ensure equipment and/or cargo is secured before movement.
- Participate in training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements.
- Assist with any site required safety, load or unload processes including handling of hoses and other commodity specific equipment.
- Perform duties in a manner that promotes superior customer service and professionalism within the Company and the industry.
