Join our team as a Technician I and help support the critical systems that keep our electric utility operating safely and reliably. This position works with SCADA, communications networks, fiber optics, cybersecurity, substation controls, and electronic systems across the District.

The successful incumbent for this position will be hired at the hourly rate of $67.03.
 
Position Summary:
The Technician I works under the supervision of the Information Systems Supervisor. Technician duties include the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electronic control and communication systems throughout Douglas County.
This position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is subject to a one-year probationary period.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Enterprise level administration and operation of networking/routing equipment over fiber optic, analog, and digital wireless communication infrastructures.
  • Administration of network security firewalls and associated security and event management software.
  • Set up and maintain virtual environments, domain controllers, and authentication software.
  • Perform routine vulnerability assessments for NERC CIP regulatory compliance.
  • Maintenance, troubleshooting, and development of SCADA and telemetry systems.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on substation IEDs such as RTU’s and circuitry related to metering, protective relays, and reclosers.
  • Installation and maintenance of video walls, mapboards, and trend displays associated with a Control Center and a Backup Control Center.
  • Perform maintenance on physical security systems.
  • Support the District’s mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.
  • Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.

  • Adhere to the District’s Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District.
Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions between this position and employees, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent, on-site attendance while working independently and with others.
 
This position is designated as safety sensitive.
 
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate a good understanding of computer systems of all types, network routing, security and monitoring systems, and authentication methods.
  • Ability to comply with security measures, as well as safety rules and regulations is required.
  • Ability to read and revise engineering drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to write complete and accurate reports describing equipment tests or trouble investigations.
  • Familiarity of NERC reliability standards is preferred.
  • Ability to learn complex systems, software, and tools to support Technician activities. 
  • Ability to interact with coworkers, vendors, and the public in a positive manner. 
  • Ability to work alone or function cooperatively in a team environment. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office application products. 
Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Formal education at a college, trade school or military training in electronics or computer networking, or the equivalent work experience to meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 
  • Work experience should be in the following categories: network switching/routing, wireless communications, SCADA, power system equipment, computer hardware, fiber optics, emergency power systems or electronic test equipment.

Certifications:
A valid driver's license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job offer).  Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver's license within 30 days of employment.
