Job Description

J. C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center is a federally qualified community health center which exists to provide patient-centered primary health care services to the medically underserved residents of the greater Savannah-Chatham County, Georgia community. The Health Center makes comprehensive primary care, integrated behavioral health care, oral health care, and inpatient respite care services available to all persons, including the homeless and low-income uninsured and underinsured, regardless of ability to pay. The Dental Assistant functions as an active member of the dental team. The Dental Assistant supports the team by assisting in the performance of dental and radiographic procedures.

Qualifications:

  • State of Georgia Certified Dental Assistant
  • HS or GED; at least one year work experience in dental office or clinic
  • Previous non profit experience preferred
  • Patient Interviewing skills
  • Knowledge of full range of dental clinical procedures
  • Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services
  • Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot a wide range of dental equipment in accordance with prescribed procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards and protocols
  • Ability to develop and process dental radiographs
  • Knowledge of sterile procedures
  • Records maintenance skills
  • Basic knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite, with any additional computer skills a plus
  • Experience with Dentrix preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationship with patients
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides chair-side assistance to dentists and/or dental hygienists in the performance of dental procedures.
  • Prepares, sterilizes, organizes, and sets up dental equipment, ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, and processed according to established clinic standards.
  • Maintains dental equipment, such as compressors, evacuator systems, radiographic developing equipment, and sterilizers in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines.
  • Develops and processes dental radiographs in accordance with provider orders.
  • Follows and maintains all relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations, guidelines, policies, and standards for the provision of dental clinical services.
  • Orders and maintains inventories of dental clinic supplies.
  • Interacts with and processes dental clinic patients; schedules appointments, performs telephone triage, and conducts patient interviews.
  • Creates and maintains dental records in accordance with established procedures
