Job Description

Job Purpose:
Conducts testing of chairs, tables, and other institutional furniture related products. Conducts testing of materials, experimental products, and finished goods, to determine performance and/or compliance with industry standards. Job to be conducted in a furniture manufacturing environment; factory test lab. Develop and maintain documentation required for accreditation compliance and audits.

Essential Functions:
•    Manages and performs daily testing activities concerned with product development, design validation, and experimentation.
•    Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted, and phases of test operations.
•    Builds and/or procures equipment and machines required to perform specific tests.
•    Confers with engineering and technical personnel to resolve testing problems; provides input to help troubleshoot and/or resolve design or manufacturing issues.
•    Analyzes and interprets test data; prepares technical reports for use by engineering and management personnel.
•    Coordinates outside source testing efforts.
•    Maintains testing database, test records and documentation required for accreditation.
•    Determines applicable industry standard to ensure compliance.
•    Supports purchasing with testing and evaluation of purchased items.
•    Perform product testing using weights, pulleys, and electronic load cells.
•    Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
•    High school diploma or equivalent with two years of additional college or technical training or equivalent experience.
•    Ability to work independently with strong documentation and organizational skills.
•    Ability to handle multiple projects with firm deadlines.
•    Hands-on mechanical testing 75%, documentation 25%.
•    General computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
•    Basic knowledge of load cells, actuators, measuring tools, and pneumatics a plus.
•    Strong mechanical aptitude required.
•    Ability to fabricate test apparatus and components using conventional machine shop mills, lathes, etc. a plus.
•    Strong Documentation Skills using Word or Excel.
•    Ability to document and follow procedures, maintain records for auditing.
•    Experience dealing with mechanical product testing a plus.
•    Knowledge of ISO 17025 a plus.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds to waist level, to frequently push and/or pull up to 30 pounds. Some extensive standing and bending. Will require to sit in front of a computer for approximately 1 hour a day. Frequent walking. Must wear applicable and proper protective equipment including, but not limited to, protective eye wear when walking out to the plant.
