The tooling engineer will be responsible for designing new projects as well as overseeing audits, managing buildings pertaining to quality, and implementing continuous improvement projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design foundry tooling for new launches and continuous improvement projects
  • Design gages and fixtures for core room, foundry, finishing and machining
  • Oversee sampling and testing of new and reworked tooling
  • Audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with IATF 2015:16949. When applicable, change processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Manage tooling builds at outside pattern shops and machine shops
  • Champion continuous improvement projects to increase productivity and reduce scrap
  • Maintain conformance with company policies, work rules and regulations, coaching employees’ and/or initiating disciplinary actions, as required.
  • Maintain awareness of improved operational methods, production processes, or equipment which improve quality and efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Exercise maximum care to protect the environment by fostering and supporting responsible operating procedures.
  • Exceed customer quality and service expectations through attention to detail.
  • Perform customer service work as required, including travel to customer facilities.
  • Extend treatment to all other employees of the company as individuals with the courtesy and dignity shown to customers.
  • Exhibit superior safety practices every day evidenced by outstanding housekeeping at all times. Enforce the proper use of safety equipment and coach employees to reinforce safe work practices. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform all duties as requested by supervisor/manager.

Training Skills: 

  • Supervisory safety training
  • All departmental process procedures
  • Computer Literacy EXCEL and Word

 

Requirements:

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical, Industrial or materials engineering preferred
  • At least 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience required
  • 3D CAD modeling experience required (Solidworks preferred, NX, CREO, Inventor)
  • Knowledge of FEA and CFD software preferred (ANSYS, MAGMA….)
  • Experience with manufacturing and/or skilled trades required
